Those who came close to Herb Carneal are few and far between. So it's not really fair to have expected Gordon to match that but there was something about his delivery--contrived voice is a good way to say it--that I just never really liked.

I miss Herb a  lot too. I was watching his acceptance speech at the HOF and was emotional and delightful. Then I found a video where it was audio of one of his past broadcasts. It brought it all back, what an absolutely magical experience it was to listen to Herb call a game! For me, Herb Carneal is the best radio play by play announcer I’ve ever heard!

I'll say it too. Why are we crowning Atteberry in the article? That's the first time I've ever heard that sentiment about him. He is flat terrible.

My primary source of baseball audio has always been the radio. I sync radio audio to any game I watch because most TV announcers just don't give enough information due to the medium. I've sampled a lot of announcers.

Kris Atteberry delivers the least information per word of anyone I've ever heard. Combine that with apparently not needing to breathe he just never stops. Just shut up Kris, for 3 seconds and see what happens.

The opinions expressly expressed in the article do not represent the views of my part of Twins Territory, many areas around these parts and pretty much every one I've heard talk about him. My impression was that he was pretty universally tolerated at best.

You can try to speak it into existence but I'll be trying to speak it out. If the fan base didn't have Gladden to laugh at Atteberry would be exposed big time.

I like Atteberry as the studio guy and doing the postgame stuff. He’s always well-prepared for doing play-by-play, but it’s like he’s trying to squeeze in every nugget by the third inning.

I do like that when Atteberry fills in for Gladden, it feels like Provus is able to relax a bit, knowing that he doesn’t have to carry Gladden.

I also have thought of Nash Walker in the last few days!

I watched with deep appreciation of his astonishing growth hosting Locked On Twins. He has a good feel for the game. And most telling, I thought, even when he was doing Locked on Twins, that he was destined to broadcast Twins games someday.

It would be a really fresh move. I’m voting for Nash Walker as the new TV play by play man. As a bonus, you’ll get the same passion as from Dick Bremer.

Are you listening, Mr. Falvey?

Do you have a clip of Nash doing play by play?  I'll give it a listen just on principle.

Not going to happen for too many reasons to list but the Golden Voice of Jon Miller, SF radio ("KNBR the Northern California Honda Dealer network") broadcaster.  Listen to SF Giants games on iHeart just to experience the beauty of a baseball game called by a consummate Professional. Don't even care if the Giants win or lose... ;-)

OK, just woke up from the dream....

Go Twins!

If Provus goes to TV I'd like to hear Attebury and Molitor a lot on radio. They worked really well together the several games they called this year.

Gladden needs to go. He misses complete at bats telling the same stories he's told in the past, and is even worse when there is a guest in the booth. There are times he doesn't tell us the score for 10 minutes or more. All of you saying Attebury misses calling the game I have never heard him miss calling at bats really at all. Might miss a pitch here and there but at least he'll tell us the count and score on a regular basis, which on radio is a key to calling games.

That's really, really good.  At 23 years old, its exceptional.  He's already miles better than Atteberry.  I listened to the draft on the radio this year and for some reason they thought a radio clip highlight added to the introduction to the player.  So many major college announcers are so, so bad, Nash could take any of their places right now.  When people are asking for out of the box thinking, this might be a more realistic path.

Can't get another 40 year broadcaster starting with a 60 year old.  I mean, technically possible, I know.

I'm going to find a Reno Aces replay for a longer sample.  Filling the dead time is just as important as the highlights.

Yeah, I could get behind Nash Walker.  Good enough to do radio.

Provus makes a lot of sense, but he basically keeps the radio broadcast afloat.  We all know where I stand on Gladden in the booth.

Minnesota sports in general do a great job of hiring broadcast guys.  The Wolves TV crew is considered among the best in the business.  The Vikes radio guys (while a little homer-ish at times) bring a lot of excitement and and energy to the game, Looking at the past, Minnesota has been spoiled with HOF guys all over the place:  Carneal, Gordon, Kaat, Tom Hanneman, Kevin Harlan.

I don't want them to settle, go get the best PBP person they can find (and retire Gladden immediately).
