So you’re saying the deal is a good one because it saves the Vikings less than 2% of the total cap in the year they least need it (since there are no valuable free agents left to sign), and they can get out of it if he’s not worth it (in which case valuing him at the level they did was clearly a mistake)?

This isn’t team friendly in the only way that matters—is the player more valuable than the money in the contract.  Hockenson is being paid like he’s the best tight end in football, and a top tier pass catcher regardless of position.  He is neither, thus this is not a team friendly deal.

He’s worth a hell of a lot more than $5 million this year, no? And it’s pretty easy to get out of the inflated back half of the contract. I don’t know what you were hoping for.

It was Hockenson’s turn for a new deal and other TEs younger than him will be due for higher contracts. It’s just like QBs. At one point in time, Jimmy G was the highest paid QB in football and he was not close to being the best.

The Hockenson deal is terrible.  They’re paying a guy who’s never had 100 catches, never broken 1000 yards, and never had even 7 TDs like he’s a number one receiver.  Not tight end, receiver.  He never gets this deal on the open market, and only got it because Kwesi traded for him in desperation last year, and now needs to prove it wasn’t a mistake.

Now that the Vikings have shown how much they’re willing to pay for a 90 catch, 900 yard, 7 TD player who’s 26, what do you think a 24 year old good for 120 catches, 1700 yards, and 10 TDs is going to get?

Only Travis Kelce had 100 catches and 1000 yards as a TE last year. Mark Andrews, who was the best TE in the league the year before did it, but that was his only season doing so. Kittle hasn't had 1000 yards in four years and never 100 catches. I think your TE expectations are a bit high.

Hockenson was arguably the second best TE in the league last year and he's younger than Kelce, Andrews, Kittle, Waller and Goedert, so he would be more valuable. Based on age and production, Hockenson or Pitts are really the only two TEs who currently have a logical reason to push the TE salary.

And it probably did need to be pushed, even after this deal, the pay is still not on par with most positions. The top TE salaries are still less than edge rushers, linebackers, corners and even guards and safeties.

Another year of bad offensive line play already showing itself. 2 turnovers already. Haven’t had a good o line since 2009. And Antoine Winfield jr doing it to add insult to injury

4 drives, 65 yards, 2 punts and 2 fumbles. Wonderful start

Baker QB for TB balances things.  Lack of O-line is big part of my 8-9 season prediction.

Man, you’ve got to be thankful that our QB is not baker mayfield.

He's a bad joke different teams try out and its never good.

One of the big reasons they won 13 games last year was they didn’t turn it over too much. Covered up a lot of shortcomings
