I thought this was an interesting one. It has to be relatively close. It sounds like the Mets just have to get Scherzer to waive his no-trade clause.

A few minutes before the news broke that the Rangers and Mets were close, Rangers beat writer Evan Grant tweeted the following:

Someone else tweeted that if Scherzer's getting dealt, then the White Sox aren't doing a service to themselves if they don't make Dylan Cease available. And, maybe it should mean that the Twins consider dealing a starter?

Sebastian Walcott not a part of this deal. He is out of today's lineup for disciplinary reasons, so for the trade.

But, now they are just waiting on Scherzer's approval.

Yep, the NY Post is reporting that they're waiting for Mad Max to waive his no-trade. No mention of what the Mets are getting back for him, if the deal goes thru.

The Mets won't get much unless they also send money. Reality crushed the Mets glorious spending spree. Now they need to go back and try another path.

They won’t have to send a lot of money, Scherzer has an opt out I would assume he would use.

Honestly, this is all part of the plan for the Mets. They are doing the trust the process thing the expensive way.

Both of these teams have essentially bought their teams over the last couple of years. It’s interesting to see the strategy work out well in Dallas, and disastrously in Queens.

Why would Scherzer going to Texas or anywhere affect what the Sox do with Cease or what the Twins would do with their staff?

Makes sense that Texas - after going all-in on their staff & de Grom being hurt, would go after Scherzer.

Perhaps people are feeling that teams such as Cincy, Baltimore, San Diego, and others are down one more choice and eager to add pitching.

From what I'm seeing Scherzer has elected to waive the opt out and the Mets are paying a good chunk of what's left on the deal. And all the Mets are getting is Acuna's younger brother.

Yeah, I guess it makes sense for a 39 year old to force the opt in.  Still fits the Mets model.

I watched the younger Acuna the last two nights and he looks the part.  He'll be a solid 2nd baseman for a while.
