Would Polo make a good first baseman? It may lessen the stress and strain on his legs...or not?

Interesting, kind of like Rod Carew found himself at first base later in his career.

Question is, which lineup offers the better defense?  Polo and first and Julien at second?  Or Julien at first and Polo at second?  I guess if it is the later, you could pull Julien late in games, move Polo to second and bring AK in to first.  But wouldn't want to do that if the game was close and Julien was due up in the 8th or 9th.

Apparently the official scorer ruled Jax' appearance "brief and ineffective."

I don't recall seeing it, ever, but I guess it's a thing.

Yeah, I thought that exception only applied when the starter failed to go 5.  But the link you provided is clear.

Still, last night's case was at the very borderline of where that exception is intended.  The provided link gave a much worse example as the intent.

All in all, I think it's fine, as long as it's consistently applied, and it is an edge case anyway.  W-L record for relievers is even less reliable as an indicator than it is for starters in the modern game.

Thanks.  I have never seen this before, but based on the definition Pagen (with a 3 up 3 down inning) was the most effective reliver after Jax.  Just wondering, if Pagen had loaded the bases but didn't allow a run and Duran came in and struck out the side in 10 pitches, could Duran get both the win and save?

funny I discussed that yesterday when Bautista came on in a tie game; O's took the lead and Bautista came back and saved his own win. Seems like a 'closer' should be able to get the win (which is mostly irrelevant to a closer) and a save (which is what they get paid to do)

A few guys have pitched complete-game wins this season.  if the lead was 3 or less, award them Saves for the ninth, too?  A closer would have gotten that if brought in.

And holds for the 7th and 8th.
