Last week, the Twins DFAd RHP Trevor Megill to make room for RHP Brock Stewart. So far that's looking like a great decision. Megill really struggled all year to throw strikes and when he did, he got hit hard.

On Sunday, the Twins announced that he had been traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for a little cash. Probably not much. and that's fine.

Megill will only have to switch clubhouses and dugouts in next week's series at CHS Field. The Saints return home to take on the Brewers AAA club, the Nashville Sounds.

Megill certainly was intriguing and flashed some real talent after the Twins claimed him off waiver from the Cubs after the 2021 season. He could throw hard, and at times, he had a really good 12-6 curveball. The consistency simply wasn't there for him and even less so this year.

On paper, this guy looks like a real stud. PLUS curveball - PLUS fastball - no real 3rd pitch with any effectiveness though.

On paper, I thought over the past off-season that he may develop a third pitch. Maybe a cutter at 93Mph seemed feasible.

98 - 100Mph four seam

93 Mph cutter

86 Mph (12-6) curveball

Sounds like a lock for stardom in a Pen. Lack of any control lets guys ignore the curveball & sit on the straight fastball in the zone. The fact that the cutter is a fantasy is the nail in the coffin. Too many free passes and too many hard hit fastballs.

Thought Twins would coach him up but apparently any progress was too slow or too frustrating for organization to deal with any longer.

Great illustration of how getting 8 talented guys, that can be effective in a Pen, is so difficult. (i. e. E. Pagan)

Megill becomes the 13th relief pitcher on the Brewers 40 man roster.

He doesn’t have to go on their 49-man, does he? He was no longer on ours

He does if the Brewers don't want him exposed to other teams.

He was taken off our 40 man roster on the 25th to give Brock Stewart a spot. Teams have 7 days I believe to make a deal and get something in return before the player is exposed to other teams for free.

The Brewers gave up something for him... Don't know what... may not be much... but the Brewers gave up something to keep him from being exposed to other teams.

He has options so the Brewers can stash him in the minor leagues but he must occupy a 40 man spot or they can't hold him.

The Twins DFA'ed him to make room for another player, which gave them (I forget exactly) 7 or 10 days to do something with him, but apparently they didn't place him on waivers (which last 3 days and can take place anytime during the DFA period) so as to be able to outright him to the minors themselves.  I infer that they had good reason to believe that more than one team was ready to scoop him up, if they had put him on those waivers, so they managed a tiny bidding war for Megill and took the best tiny offer they got.  Good for them, versus just losing him.

Megill is currently listed on the Brewers' 40-man but in the minors, so at least the outline of what I've said here is probably right.  If Megill had actually cleared waivers, the Brewers would have had no reason to add him to the 40, and could just have placed him in AAA, "outright" as they say.
