Monkeypaws Verified Member Posted March 30, 2023 Posted March 30, 2023 I'd never really heard of this guy, so I looked him up on Baseball Reference. He was drafted out of high school the same year the Twins took Cavaco out of high school, but 17 positions later, 30th overall. The guy has been a consensus top 20 prospect the last 2 years. Grumble about the Yankees all you want, but they do draft/sign and develop prospects pretty well.
stringer bell Verified Member Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Yes, their last run of championships was fueled by homegrown talent--Jeter, Posada, Mariano, Bernie Williams, and Pettitte. Another thought about the Evil Empire.......I don't think their fanbase wants their front office to trade with the Twins any time soon. Aaron Hicks, Donaldson and Kiner-Falefa might be the three most unpopular Yankees right now.
tony&rodney Verified Member Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 The story of Volpe calling (forgot who right now) and asking if he could wear #11 is pretty cool. When the Yankees bleacher fans did the "roll call", that was a pretty amazing experience for him. Volpe was born and raised in NYC and then his family moved to New Jersey - so local boy. The ovation was over the top when he came to the plate. He looked pretty good too in his first MLB game. I'm a diehard Twins fan but have never disliked any other team in my life because baseball is about competition.

To be fair Sanchez was one of the most unpopular players prior to the trade and the unpopular Hicks has far exceeded the forgettable Murphy.
