Monday Afternoon

It's Monday afternoon and Rocco is still the Twins' manager.  I really think he's been given ample time to show what he can do based on what the Twins have given him.  There are just too many other things that Rocco lacks the ability in.  His decision making processes concerning the line-up and bullpen are suspect.  His 'read' on pitchers is lacking.  It's easy  to make him the scapegoat, but he's had a lot of instances where he just came up short or made moves that are baffling.  I believe the FO and ownership should shoulder much of the blame, but you can't fire everyone.

Does anyone see a Rocco 'move' or 'change', that would get this team over the hump.?  Is he working with an inferior minor league system and/or coaching staff?  The team has shown it can hang.  For 2 months,  they were the best in the Central.  Yes, Cleveland and Chicago weren't playing that well, but we couldn't push the pedal to the metal, to create some distance.  Yes, injuries played a major part, but they have to be  worked around  or 'managed' better.  The IL was just too convenient a tool.  Instead of some guys working through some minor injuries, they were put on the IL.  No matter how their conditions improved, or how quickly, they were out of action bases on the IL duration they were assigned.

I've been rambling, and for that I apologize.  Like a lot of commenters, I've been a Twins fan for 6 decades or more.  I celebrated 2 championships.  and, I would like to celebrate another one,  with you ladies and gentlemen.

I don't think a decision will be made until after the season as technically they are still in the hunt. I have no clue if his seat is even hot but I know I have grown tired of his style and abilities.

The farm system is solid and has a lot of quality talent, but not a lot of that involves pitching...especially starting pitching. I've said this a handful of times, but I would really like to see the Twins make decisions on the high ranking infield prospects. They have too many and if Correa signs a long term deal then it means they need one less infielder.

2019 was what it was partly because they brought in non-pitching veterans, they are gone and the farm system boys are Keystone -cops for results.

Can't run, can't field.

Which infield prospects are you referring to? They traded away multiple infield prospects at the deadline. Lewis and Lee are really the only ones they have left that are big time prospects. They may also need a Polanco replacement relatively soon if this season was a sign of declining skill and not injury.

Outside of Lewis and Lee you still have Austin Martin, Tanner Schobel, Noah Miller, and Jermaine Palacios. All of them are listed in the top 18. Pair that with Gio, Correa, Polanco, Arraez, Polanco, Kirilloff, Nick Gordon, and Miranda. I know some of them can play outfield and/or DH, but it feels like there are too many

Martin is certainly an interesting infield guy, but I don't know that they need to make a decision on him beyond whether or not he can even play at this point. To me, he's not someone to worry about until he's succeeding at AA (and I think he's likely an OF/Utility guy). Schobel was just drafted a few months ago. Not sure what decisions should be made on him after 32 minor league games. Noah Miller is years away in A ball. And Palacios seems to have established himself as a AAAA type player with a solid glove and not much hit. I don't know what decisions the team really has to make on those 4 particular players. Palacios holding down a 40 man spot is about the only one I can think of.

I think there's a chance there's a bit of a logjam if Lewis and Lee are both ready within the next year, but I don't see too much of a problem. The 4 you named haven't shown they are worthy of the Twins making room for them and they really don't have much, if any, trade value at this point.

Palacios is a 26 year old who has been in the minors since 2014 and at AA or higher since 2018, can we stop the talk that he is some sort of prospect. or solution for the Twins. He is a stop gap type player for a bad team and a utility type (Plan B/Plan C) for a good team and a AAA player for a great team. He can hope to be Niko Goodrum.

All I know is that, using yesterday as an example, the entire lineup is a cast of total unknowns plus an overpaid short stop. No wonder they have sunk towards the bottom of the standings faster than the Nautilus. It wouldn't matter who the manager was.  I get the Orioles in my market and they have 2 rookies starting right now and a very competitive roster. Meanwhile the Twins seem to scramble just to field a MLB caliber team. Rocco should fire Failvey /Levine as well as the entire analytics staff and spend the off season scouting. Can't wait to see the big moves they make.

I get that, but I wanted to point out how many guys fight for the spots and how many of them are very young. I know you want to keep guys for 4-5 years from now or whatever, but let's make some moves and get some starting pitching

You're giving Randball's Stu a run for his money.
