Inside-the-park grand slam? You don’t see those everyday

That's as bad a "mental makeup" in-game result as I can recall.  He misjudges the ball, okay so be it - but then he just gives up on it, and lets the left fielder make the longer run to go retrieve it?  Back to Worcester, young man, and hope you ever get another chance.

Yeah to see him give up on that ball and start walking after he saw it hit the track....not a good look. I'm guessing he was embarrassed and it also looks like the LF was sprinting into the picture so he just figured he's let the LF get it. That said, if I was Duran I'd have still run just for appearance sake.

Had to take a peek at the final score and HOLY SCHNIKES, the Blue Jays won 28-5.

I don’t think he misjudged it, he didn’t see it. So, okay, stuff happens. But yeah, after it hits, he doesn’t do anything. That’s bad.

100%. Him pouting and barely walking 10 feet after the ball lands is a bad look.

I'll disagree. By the time he saw where the ball was he also saw that the left fielder was going to get to the ball before he could have. There was nothing more he could do at that point.

Must have been a little embarrassing for the Red Sox when the Jays score 4 touch downs on you, yikes! Thought I was looking at football scores when I looked at yesterday's game. An 11 run 5th inning!

Yeah, I'll disagree. He does absolutely nothing ... he could have tried. He just ... gave up on the play altogether. It's a bad look.

I think Duran could still have beaten his left fielder to the ball.  But logic comes into play a few tenths of a second after the mistake.  What I wanted to see is a better snap reaction; head for the ball, assess while en route.

I've heard of the airplane pilot's order of priorities when emergency strikes: 1) aviate, 2) navigate, 3) communicate.  Duran stopped even aviating.

We've all watched the 1986 Bill Buckner grounder a zillion times.  But do you have etched in your memory what Buckner did in the instant after the ball went through?  His first reaction was to go fix his mistake.  Quickly enough, he stopped, because he knew the game was lost the moment he hadn't made the play.  But, he's first and foremost a ballplayer; go to the ball. That's what's so poignant for me in that long-ago game.

Different positions on the field, not to mention differing game situations, so different timing and logic.  But I wanted to see that same kind of don't-merely-give-up from the Red Sox CFer.  Jarren Duran is now on the same list for me as Jake Cave - CF-quality skills perhaps but a guy I don't want on my team.
