It only happens in one country, so it isn't anything but easy access. The data is very clear on that.

I do think we'll have a problem, even with law changes, of having that same success due to our culture around guns.  But too much of the argument around solutions on this is about some kind of perfect silver bullet.  There isn't one.  (At least not a viable one)

There's no silver bullet but let's try a few things besides thoughts and prayers.

And those cops were pathetic. Not a surprise at all, but I'm really glad people are noticing. I think cutting the police budget by 20% and using that money on mental health issues for kids would have been money better spent. But at least they have a really nice swat team photo.

For sure.  It will just take a myriad of approaches, none of which individually should be held to the standard of THE solution.

And move another 20% into retraining or better training. I mean ... sheesh ... when parents get by the police and into the school and get their own children out ... what is that?

But, the bottom line for me ... this is a weapon that should be in no one's hands, period, let alone how easily purchased it was. Remove the access, (or at the very least put into place background checks, waiting periods, licensing), and there is no discussion here how the police mishandled things.

When was Columbine? Twenty-some years ago? Talk about things never changing. How many dead? How many CHILDREN dead?

All EASILY* preventable and senseless.

(*easily, if not for politicians in Washington being bought and paid for by the NRA. Who, incidentally, banned guns at their convention ... think about that one.)
