Game Thread Twins vs Astros "later" 5/12/2022 ad

Twins were owned this week. They struggled to beat a bad Oakland team. Take 2 of 3 from Cleveland, get Correa back soon, and get back to beating up on bad teams the rest of The month.

until tomorrow,

go twins

I'm not convinced intensity will help when the opposing team is far better than you in both pitching and hitting... I didn't see any difference with the squad with Tingler managing it rather than Rocco.

Maybe not, but there has to be some effect when the manager is constantly approaching things as if the season is 500 games long. No pressure, no urgency. I find it interesting that the twins are among the league leaders in injuries but not in time on the injured list. I feel like Rocco and team tend to be overly cautious with guys. He even came out with the trainer to check on winder today. Wasn’t even hurt. The whole demeanor comes off as soft. Compare to the Astros who were stealing bases, putting guys in motion, etc.

Yes they were outclassed talent wise today, but like, how about trying a little more? so many at bats given away. Sloppy defense. None of it was good

Let me see if memory serves me correctly. 2012/2013 the Astros were the worst team in baseball. Altuve was 1st year and then they started adding 1 or 2 young guys a year and they stuck with them. Correa Brantley Springer Bregman etc. They built that core through the draft and sprinkled in some free agent pitchers Grenke and Verlander. I think Kuechel was there. Got some bullpen help via trade and have consistently added pieces since then. Tucker last year the rookie shortstop this year. And they win consistently each year. The Twins and all of mlb have the blueprint. The problem is they don't have the patience. If their young guys don't perform immediately they panic  and demote. And Twin fans are up in arms. As long as they keep doing it like that it'll be a while before they have long playoff runs let alone a World Series ring

They kept and tried a lot of young guys all through the seventies, the .500 plus or minus seventies.

Ok how about the 80s and 90s when they won a lot. If memory serves me right. They built their roster with young guys and stuck with them. Knobloch Hunter Puckett Hrbek Gladden and you picked up key free agent in Morris

Plus you already had Viola and Erickson.  So it has worked for a few organizations that way. The 80s Tiger teams and Brewers built much the same way. Cardinals too. Those 80s and 90s Yankee teams sucked. They paid high priced free agents and never developed their young guys until late 90s early 2000s with Jeter Williams Posada etc. It's the right formula and you know it.  Keep doing it your way. And keep complaining year after year.

Damn if you do, damned if you do not; I still feel bad for Gardner in 1984 when the Twins had their two worst losing streaks when it really made a difference that could not be overcome.

Yeah but no one was going to catch the 84 Tigers. A 35-5 start will do that
