If you do all that and do nothing about pitching, which you don’t mention at all, it will be more of the same.

For pitching, Maeda, Berrios and Pineda are locks. It would not be a bad idea to try to extend Pineda. Dobnak could be the long man. Try best to sign at least a #2 starter if not an Ace. Sign Clippard, Romo, Wisler and Thielbar. Sign Rogers and May at reduced price if possible. Stashak, Alcala and Duffey should be locks. Try to sign a reliable closer. Promote younger players aggressively.

Yes, Cruz was ejected.

 

I wonder why they don't use the pinch hitter for the ejection part -- meaning, Cruz could just tell Adrianza to go insult the umpire on his behalf.

To be fair, it wasn't until maybe 2010 that a pattern emerged.

 

 

There was a little bit of the pattern starting in 2003, or even 2002.

 

2002 ALCS: won game 1, lost next 4 (vs Angels)

 

2003: won game 1, lost next 3

 

2004: won game 1, lost next 3

 

2006: lost all 3 (vs Oakland)

 

2009: lost all 3

 

2010: lost all 3

 

2017: lost only one

 

2019: lost all 3

 

Even when they weren't getting swept the first few times, they still had a propensity to drop 3+ in a row.
