bighat Verified Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 Any chance MLB starts on time? Are we going to be looking at a cancelled season? I'm concerned about the virus like everyone. But sticking to sports, I'm feeling very concerned that the MLB will start on time, and worried we could be looking at a lost season. If I were a betting man, I'd say it will push the start date back to June 1 or something.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 I tend to agree. i think we'll have a condensed season but we will see.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 They need to decide soon, so the players can prepare themselves properly. But suspending everything tomorrow would be a good start, and then decide when or whether to start the games.

Eh ... I'm reconsidering my trip to Florida next week.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted March 12, 2020 Posted March 12, 2020 A second Jazz player returned a positive test. The way the first player reacted, being apparently healthy and asymptomatic and acting out in anger, I’m going to guess that the team (or whoever) released the results without the player’s permission, and wouldn’t that be a breach of confidentiality? Helps me to speculate that these sports teams/leagues aren’t necessarily handling this properly.

Absolutely agree ... unless there is a known danger, but then it should be kept within a certain circle, imo, i.e. within the team itself and not in public as to who. But how do you think they should this be handled in terms of suspending the seasons or not?

The NBA season was almost over (about 80% complete) and to boot, playoff spots weren’t really up for grabs either. MLB is in a different spot.
