It's hard to reconcile Butler's well regarded all out effort and anything-to-win attitude with his desire to play for three of the worst teams in the league. Not questioning his motivations or anything, just ick, the Knicks might be more poorly run than the Wolves.

Well if the coach has to bring in vets to motivate the young guys because that's not his strength but the only good vet doesn't want to be here, I think it's time for a new coach.

yeah...I expected the Lakers on there.  This sounds like he and Kyrie have a plan.

Nothing about Jimmy as advertised has been true other than he's a pretty good player.  To me, I'm at "good riddance" stage.

What could we even reasonably get for him from these teams?

None of these three teams will be willing, or even capable of sending MN a better haul than LaVine/Markkanen. Hope we all had fun last year.

Not a bad day to be a Lakers fan. Not bad at all.

I still try and deal him to Boston.  I think you have the best odds of getting a return from them that can help going forward.

Here's the real question....does Thibs just utterly ignore this and REALLY screw us all over?

Yeah I wouldn't care one bit about his preferred destination. The T Wolves need to look out for themselves, not try to satisfy a player who's already out the door.

The Spurs didn't care where Leonard wanted to go. They made the best trade for their organization.

Selling a star player will always stink in the NBA as long as it's an accepted practice to protect the top draft picks. Where's the motivation to move a stud player when the pick compensation is going to be #12 overall? That needs to change.

What's best for MN at this point is moving Butler. That flies directly in the face of what Thibs needs to do to satisfy ownership and keep his job; improve the team from last season.

This is why having a coach who is also the PBO is a terrible idea.

I could not agree more.  I have the feeling he will try to force this to work, fail miserably, and set the club back for years.

Flexible and forward thinking are just not adjectives I would use to describe Thibs.

Reasonably, draft picks, young defensive-oriented wings (Thornwell, Shai Gilgerious-Alexander, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Caris LeVert, really no one from the Knicks) and salary relief in getting rid of the $48 million they still owe Dieng.

I wouldn't hang up if the Nets called up with a package around RHJ.

I don’t know what to think of the Kyrie-jimmy connection. I haven’t heard the same enthusiasm out of Kyrie, and I’m pretty sure he’s planning on winning a championship right now with the only team that even has a prayer against the warriors.

That said, the dust won’t even begin to settle until next July.

Sounds like KAT signed that after been assured Jimmy is gone.

This thing must have been toxic as hell behind the scenes.  Which is only a stronger indictment of Thibs: he knew this and tried to force it anyway.

It should probably be the clips. Tobias Harris and Lou Williams would be an ok get. A clippers 2019 pick is probably going to be high value as well. Can’t imagine they’ll do better than that.

Yeah, Saric is a guy I'd be really interested in.  I'd be more than happy to offer Philly Teague and Butler if they dig that sort of thing.

Not having any leverage stinks....I hope Thibs is fired shortly after this trade is completed.

Based on his unhealthy desire to bring in over the hill players from his coaching glory days, I'd think Thibs was perhaps just lucky in his previous job. If you can't recreate what you did before using different but younger and more talented parts, heck, if you won't even try, my guess is you didn't know what you were doing the first time and just stumbled into the situation.

Saric doesn’t make a ton of sense. He’s a good young player, but the Wolves needed wings before this whole mess started. You can’t have KAT, Gorgui, Patton, Gibson, and Saric. I mean, Thibs would probably love an antiquated lineup such as that, but he’s trying real hard to get fired so, basically, nobody would want that.

Wolves need 3s and d. And lots of it.

Well, Saric did hit 3s at a near 40% clip.  He would slide in at power forward and be a solid complement to Towns IMO.

But yes, they are desperate for wings.
