puckstopper1 Verified Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 There are zero baseball reasons why Hughes remains on the MLB roster. Get rid of him please.Vanimal - My post is "Why the %@%##@ is Phil Hughes still on the Twins roster", but you said it much more "PC" than I did. USAFChief, Vanimal46 and KirbyDome89 3
bluechipper Provisional Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Do we know where Santana is at in his rehab? For what I know it's been radio silent...I would bet that May returns before Santana at this point.A few days ago, Molitor said Santana is getting close to throwing off a mound.
less cowbell more neau Verified Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Mauer has 1 thing on his mind when he goes up to bat. WALK! He's the opposite of Kirby Puckett. Puckett would hit balls for base hits that were a foot off the plate. Mauer won't swing at anything (unless he has 2 strikes on him) that is right down the middle. On a lot of teams, having patience at the plate is considered a virtue.
Vanimal46 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 A few days ago, Molitor said Santana is getting close to throwing off a mound. So barring any setbacks, we're over a month away from him returning. I'll stick with the prediction May is back before Erv.
jun Verified Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Mauer should understand this game is not about just getting on base, it is all about scoring runs to win the game. Mauer has been getting a fat strike one every at bat. Everybody knows he takes the first pitch no matter what. h2oface 1
OldTimeTwinkie Provisional Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Joe Mauer has a .449 OBP. He's gotten on base 12 times over this eight-game losing streak. It's not his fault the pitching staff has given up 74 runs over that stretch. What do you want him to do? Pitch?
OldTimeTwinkie Provisional Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Joe Mauer is the only first baseman in MLB without a home run and only one other thing 1st baseman has fewer RBI'S. he is part of the problem.
bighat Verified Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 . I'll take Kurt Suzuki back please. At least in his worst season with the Twins he hit .240. Kurt is raking in ATL right now: .292, 4 HR, 12 RBI, .891 OPS. h2oface 1
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 (edited) Joe Mauer has a .449 OBP. He's gotten on base 12 times over this eight-game losing streak. It's not his fault the pitching staff has given up 74 runs over that stretch. What do you want him to do? Pitch? Well.... balls in play, that can become singles and doubles, and what the hell, even triples and home runs - to replace half those walks. But I will take the walks. Walks rarely drive in runs. They are very nice for the OBP stat and becoming a base runner with the potential to score a run... the most important stat. The walks would be really cool if it was followed by a stolen base. But no, I hope Mauer doesn't pitch. And I agree, the pitching staff is not his fault. Who assembled that staff, anyway? Edited April 28, 2018 by h2oface
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 On the other hand, Hildenberger’s most successful pitch last year was his fastball. Why is his fastball usage way down this year?Because his meatball percentage is way up. Vanimal46 1
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted April 28, 2018 Posted April 28, 2018 Curtiss K'd 5 of the 7 guys he faced last night in Rochester. That would have been nice. It would have been nice is Duffey's AAA performance this year translated to the show too. Unfortunately, just because they do it in Rochester, doesn't mean they will here.
