Vikings signed George Iloka. That's quite a pairing with Harrison Smith. I wonder where that leaves Sendejo, he'd be a pretty expensive backup. I know Sendejo recently got an extension so I don't know how much of his money is guaranteed but if little or none is guaranteed replacing him with Iloka could possibly free up some extra money.

KFAN morning show also had a pretty thoughtful angle on this signing as well, with how reckless and out of control he always looks, Sendejo is probably the Viking most likely to kill the defense with penalties related to the new helmet rule.

There are some people talking that on certain passing downs Smith would move into more of a linebacker role and Iloka would be the SS. This would also allow them to move Barr to the DL. Basically it just gives the defense options to try different personnel and to be able to disguise what they're trying to do.

Love it. More exotic defensive looks!

Every down is a passing down.....I'd do this on most every single play against most teams. Unless it beats up Smith too much physically.....

Just gives us depth, I don't think it spells the end of Sendejo at all.  After this year they can cut him at no cap cost, this is just insurance.

And he's one of Zim's guys.  He's also a big, hard hitting safety in his own right.

And I've said all along that I'd like Sendejo a lot more as a third safety than a starter, so I agree and hope they keep him for depth, rather than moving him.

This defense could be 2001 Ravens level special. I'm excited.

The Vikings traded for Brett Jones who was a center for NY Giants. I don’t know much about him but I’m glad they’re trading for more OL depth.

Unfortunately, I think this officially means that Pat Elflein won't be ready for week 1.

Yea, it doesn't look like it. But I like this move since Jones started 12 games last year at center and one at guard. It sounds like the reason the Vikings only had to give up a 7th rounder was because the Giants were trying to unload his salary cap as they didn't have much room.

great trade. Even if he doesn't work out, a 7th rounder? Great trade.

The contract terms for Diggsy looks like a bargain now.

Yikes. I don't know if I'd give OBJ AKA the headcase that kind of contract.

This is part of what makes the Vikes so good at managing the cap, they lock in deals in such a perfect way that they never get strapped with something like this for very long.

I like OBJ, but wow.

I'll bet I'm the only one hoping for Stacy Coley and Brandon Zylstra to get the WR spots. Everyone else seems to be on the Beebe bandwagon.

Coley and Zylstra just look like they have the most talent and thus having the best (though still slim) chances of actually being able to make a difference on the offensive side of the ball.

I think all 3 will have a better career than Treadwell.

I'd cut Treadwell and keep all 3.

Or, keep 6 WR's.

Quigley's ability to avoid touchbacks last year was really impressive; he saved the defense a ton of yards. They must have felt that whatever was going on with him this preseason couldn't be expected to get fixed.

I'm still quite concerned about the paper thin depth specifically at tackle. Now that Mack is in the division I'm envisioning other teams lining up their studs across from Rashod Hill and making him look silly.

How many sacks will Mack get in his 2 games against this OL? Will he set the record?

He's good, but he's not as great as his contract.

Makes that Danielle Hunter deal look freaking awesome.

Not at all the point of the post, but sure, he's not the best defensive player in the game.

I don't like players moving to new teams this late in the offseason. It seems to happen more so with RB/WR/QB but guys always seem to take a while to adjust. I'm predicting that Mack will look fairly ordinary this year causing Bears fans to over-react and curse the trade. Next year I'd be more confident in him bringing his A game.

Well your point was another dig at the offensive line.  You know how many truly good lines exist?

Maybe 1.  Maybe.  And Dallas is setting up to be mediocre despite investing three first rounders in it.

Kalil Mack is ok, but overrated IMO.  There are other games I'm far more worried about.  Namely Aaron Donald and the Eagles.

I'm certainly in agreement there are other teams I am more worried about.....

Just because all OL are not what they used to be does not mean I can look at this one and LIKE it.....which is fine, the defense should still be elite, and the QB should be more consistently good to very good. But not using early picks in the OL to build that elite defense might have costs. They are clearly one of the top 5 teams in the league, I'd feel better if the OL was better.

Sure, but context is important.  Would it make any sense to rip the Twins for not having their starters average 8 innings?  Considering no one is doing that, it seems like a flawed criticism.

Offensive line play is a league wide epidemic of awfulness.  Spending early picks is not a guarantee.  The Pats spent one this year and their guy is hurt (injuries tend to plague lines).  The Cowboys have used three - they get one injury and they're mediiocre to bad.  It's about resource allocation and context.  Yes, I wish they were better too, but 99% of NFL fans can say the same thing.
