Vegas sets odds on signing teams signing Ohtani

It seems Vegas (and gamblers) are nowhere near as optimistic about the Twins signing Ohtani as folks are locally. I got this in my email this week:

BetDSI.eu has opened odds on which team will sign Shohei Ohtani as well as his projected season stats for batting average and earned run average. Oddsmakers view the Yankees as the team most likely to sign Ohtani, but the odds are tight among the top 4 contenders.

Shohei Ohtani team for 2018 MLB season (must sign with MLB team for action)

New York Yankees +175
Los Angeles Dodgers +300
Seattle Mariners +350
Texas Rangers +500
Tampa Bay Rays +1200
Los Angeles Angels +1200
Chicago Cubs +1200
Boston Red Sox +1400
Field (any team not listed above) +1000

So if you think the Twins have better than a 10:1 chance, rush to get a bet in, because you also win if any more than 21 other MLB teams sign him, too.

Tampa? What am I missing? Is Ohtani a fan of shuffleboard?

It is because by last year drafting and publicly stating recpeatedly that they will develop McKay as a two-way player they have CREDIBLY shown they are willing to have a player develop as a two-way player. That seems to be something Ohtani cares a lot about. He may not trust others who claim the same as much, because the others have never actually pulled the trigger like Tampa has seemingly done with McKay. That being said, while it is something Tampa has going for it, I still don't think the odds are as high as Vegas thinks for Tampa.

Don't buy it either. No higher than the Twins minimal chances.

Normally Vegas is good with these odds. But, in this case they don’t, since their number one team has already been told they are no longer being considered, that would be the Yankees! Ohtani is looking for a small market or west coast team.

Interesting. None of these odds mean a thing to the guy making the decision. But Vegas is always looking for suckers to take some $ from.

That's the kind of bet you want, isn't it*? Pete Rose was banned because of this concern.

I’d put $1,000 on Seattle at 3.5:1

But imagine after tonight it’s closer to 1.5:1
