Doubles Verified Member Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Of all of Buxton's amazing catches, last night's may have been his finest. If that ball would have gotten by him, Kipnis most likely has a leadoff triple. Instead, Buck makes a huge play, Hildy turns & says, "Oh my God!", and you could just see the air go out of the Indians' collective balloon. What a player, what a privilege to watch. big dog and Oldgoat_MN 2
Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I know we've been talking NYC for awhile now but the Yankees only trail the Red Sox by three games. And the Sox finish with four against Houston, which will be trying to get home field for the playoffs. An even better situation -- the Yankees and Red Sox finish with the same record. They would play a Game 163 to determine who is the wild card host. That would take place immediately after the season and likely pit Sale vs. Severino. The Twins would get an extra rest day and avoid the loser's best pitcher. I think I'm cheering for that? That would be pretty cool. 2 days ago, Fangraphs pegged it as a 0.4-1.1% chance (Red Sox falling to the wild card). Presumably that includes the probability of losing a tiebreaker game? In any case, now that they've lost 2 in a row, and the Yankees have won 2 in a row, it's up to 4-10%. Still a 3 game deficit with 5 to play is tough. And the Blue Jays have played spoiler to the Red Sox the last 2 nights, and they play the Yankees next weekend too. It's not like the Yankees get to face the Tigers. And while the Astros trail by only 1 game now, Cleveland has the tiebreaker advantage for home field. So the Astros really have to make up 2 games on Cleveland with only 5 to play (and the last 3 for Cleveland are home vs. the White Sox, while Houston will be on the road in Boston for 4). The next two Twins vs Cleveland games might actually be the most important in this regard, to help keep the Astros playing (mildly) meaningful games as late as possible. Ski U Mah Gopher 1

Had some hiccups.Hey Tom. What does catch probability mean exactly? I thought it meant the odds that a ball gets caught by any centerfielder but there is no way that Kipness liner gets caught 24% of the time even by Buxton himself. It might have been his best ever so 24% catch probability just seems ridiculously high which makes me think I it doesn't mean what I think it means.

Time for us to return the favor for Houston, which got us in by beating up on the teams chasing us for the past two weeks. I like our chances to get at one with Mejia and Santana going against Salazar and Carrasco.
Loosey Verified Member Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Kipnis hit that ball in the 8th and my immediate thought was "Rocket- Buxton's got it". He's unbelievable. This was one of the most exciting Twins game of my nearly 57 years, most of them slavishly watching the Twins.Buxton is taking his "nothing but rain drops" quote quite literally this year. I like it.

Argued with some idiots in front of me talking ish about Mauer, ran around with my arm in the air when Doz was rounding the bases. I'm sure the Cleveland fans loved me there.
