OK, I'll provide support to Gagne. I also saw the words "great game" and thought the writer was being a bit generous.

As for calling him up or already having had him pitch for the Twins, get serious. Let the young man pitch out the season at Rochester. Then we will see what the Twins feel about adding him to the roster and calling him up. Personally, I think his future is bright and would do so...even if he doesn't pitch more than a couple innings out of the pen.

Has anyone noticed that Javier is hitting just under .400 in August with the month/season nearly over? This kid isn't going to be special, he already is!

Where do you think wander Javier would have gone in the draft had he been draft eligible this year? Top 5? Top 10?

Solid outing would have been more appropriate

Even if you know nothing about baseball, the number of extra base hits allowed in AAA is alarming

I'm a fan of Goncalves, just not going to overhype him

He's made 4 starts in AAA. 3 of them have been at least 'solid,' one was a clunker. I think we need to give him a little more time there before we make any huge comments about his future or anything. It's not a bad thing if he spends another couple months in AAA next year, if that's what he needs. Maybe he won't. But the sample at AAA is far too small to make any final decisions on a guy.

Rooker....WOW!

Anyone have any information in Jay? I know it's really SSS but looks like he's throwing well. I must have gotten confused because I thought he was having surgery.

What a defensive play by Royce Lewis. Seems like he should stick

The strides that Lewis has made defensively at SS since being drafted are leaps and bounds.  He takes direction extremely well and is a quick learner.  Defensively, he's gone from a project SS/outfielder to possibly an average to slightly above average SS which gives the Twins alot of options in the future.  Maybe even making Gordon available for cost controlled starting pitching.

Yeah I thought he was headed for thoracic outlet.

And yeah, Rooker is looking like the real deal.

I always thought the question would be if he has enough arm to stick. I figured he is athletic enough that he could smooth out the rough edges otherwise. If he flashes the talent to stay there is certainly reason to be hopeful.

How did Curtiss look? Heard he has incredible stuff. He's 19 because he's older and a relief prospect. I wouldn't look into that too much for a reliever

He looked pretty good. His fastball usually at 96 and a good breaking ball. While he obviously had the jitters, which mostly affected his breaking ball, he put together a 1-2-3 inning with 1 strikeout.

Like you said, relief prospects typically don't get ranked as high as others, whether they should or not.

As for last night, he was 94-96 with the fastball (per FSN)... He hung one slider that landed foul, fortunately, and he got a strikeout on a really nasty slider. He looked fine. He could be good.

Sample size in FM is one game, which went well. His sample size in the GCL rehab was 2 outings and they didn't go well. My hope is he gets through the season with the Miracle healthy.

I'm not sure I'd call BABIP a truly luck driven stat. If anyone on this forum got out on the mound, we would post pretty high BABIP (for the pitches that stayed in the park at least) that would never normalize. I suspect the high number has something to do with Gonsalves needing to make some adjustments. That, too, is pretty normal given this his first taste of AAA.

As for his future, I think most projectors have him as a mid rotation guy. That seems reasonable, but given his results, he could likely end up better... or worse. You never really know.

Mod note, quite a few jabs at people's expense have been hidden. If they continue in this thread, it will be followed by points. Please stick to the baseball conversation at hand as it has been rather enjoyable.

That's an interesting question. But difficult to answer seeing he comes from such a different background compared with high school and college kids. But considering his apparent talent, certainly should have gone high.

Considering the prep SS position was Royce Lewis then Jeter Downs, Nick Allen and Hunter Greene, Wander would have likely been considered a Top 10 draft pick in this year's draft.

It's not, but really 'luck' is just shorthand for the fact that it's quite noisy, such that large amounts of data are needed to begin determining a pitcher's true ability.
