I'm pretty sure it will be a Gee Saturday and if Gibson is ineffective, Slegers will replace Gibson on Sunday.

Pretty sure the Twins don't want to see Garver in the outfield.

Then why have play there in AAA?

Agree on not wanting to play Garver in the OF. Can't imagine Adrianza is a much better option though.

Once Granite gets a couple games in at AAA he'll probably swap with Garver.

Well, after tonight I would guess we will see more of Gibson in the Rotation.

All I can say is that if Falvey doesn't understand the difference between Gibson facing Chicago and Slegers facing Arizona, I seriously question his evaluation skills.

Not quite. He can refuse any minor league assignment, even if he clears waivers, and basically force the team to either keep him on the roster or release him. At which point he gets his full salary but is a free agent.

He could also accept an outright assignment to the minors, but that takes him off the 40-man which is why I was speculating it might be a bit harder to convince him to accept, as compared to a simple minor league optional assignment.

He is long out of options.  As he is in his eight year of minor league ball  I would think he would have the right to refuse assignment. The question would be why would he give up the paycheck?   He did not have much of a one earlier this year. It is not like he has made  millions.

The 3-8 coming into the series with the Twins Arizona. team. It took the bottom of the Mets rotation and bullpen for them to win.

On a related note, I hope Falvey doesn't base his decisions on one start.

We're talking about Perkins, not Melville.

I think I figured out why Perkins might refuse any minor league assignment: service time, for pension /benefit reasons. He came into the year with a hair over 9 years service time, and I am pretty sure 10 years has some pension/benefit implications (remember Mientkiewicz hung on to reach 10 years to get lifetime health insurance for his wife?). By my calculations he needs about 20 more days to get there. If he goes to the minors, he might not reach it by the end of the year (especially if he got hurt while in the minors), and his MLB future beyond 2017 is obviously very much in doubt at this point.

Going back a few years, it might have been the reason Perkins was willing to sign his second contract extension, to basically guarantee 10 years service. And to his credit, he isn't coasting toward it on the DL, he has been rehabbing and trying to come back.

If he was still in the rotation before the start, why remove him after? If the accumulation of his work was good enough before, according to the brass, it didn't get worse. He will still be in the rotation.

I'm basing removing Gibson from the rotation based on two years of lousy pitching. That sufficient sample size?

Removing is the easy part. Everyone on this board is an expert at that.

Remove Gibson so Nik Turley can rejoin the rotation? Wilk?   I know, liberate Jason Wheeler from LA.  Any of those players should have better outcomes than Gibson's starting pitching. Pat Dean still available? You wanted Gonsalves? I suppose the one game doesn't mean much. Every pitcher gets shelled once in a while. It is that when you have a 3 game history at AAA you  can't dismiss it as an outlier.

Bummer news on Castro. I guess Garver will get osme time behind the plate. I still wish we could pick up a RH DH type to play and add some depth to the middle of the Order. Vargas is not the answer.

That's quite an assumption that Garver would actually be a middle of the order bat.

Bummer for Castro, but fo want to see what Garver has behind the plate.

Castro to 7-day concussion DL; Granite called up.

This is why they didn't dfa Gimenez a month ago to call up Garver.
