Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 Yes, but this says nothing about who pays what if the player is signed by another team. We know that in the first year the cutting team is responsible. What about other years? I know you're trying to be helpful but we are going around in circles. Speaking of Sandoval, here is a blurb which confirms what we've all said, that the releasing team is on the hook for the entire contract: https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/07/red-sox-designate-pablo-sandoval-for-assignment.html Boston will now be on the hook for the remaining $49.8MM that Sandoval is owed through the end of the 2019 season. With a trade effectively unfathomable, Sandoval can either be outrighted to Triple-A (if he accepts the assignment) or released, at which point any club will be eligible to sign him for the pro-rated portion of the league minimum.

I suspect they'll give him one more shot in the spring, and won't hesitate to either dfa or 60 day dl."Golf Clap" I'm not sure if they'll even have a chance to get another look in the spring, but at least we won't have to watch him again this year.

They aren't responsible for his contract, but at this point what they do with it is on them.

They can always sign a wink wink minor league deal.

We are all aware of this rule. But what I'm asking for is the text of the rule, not an article written about it. It seems unusual that there is this rule that everyone is an expert on but no one can find. I simply want to find it.
