Vote for Sano!

Donaldson and his 8 HRs and 20 RBIs are within 100,000 votes of Sano. Nice job Canada.

Donaldson's got about half the PAs of Sano, so 8 HR isn't too bad. 130 wRC+ vs 140. Obviously health should matter too, though. Donaldson's about equal or better in WAR per PA as well, which highlights his advantage on defense.

And obviously star power and previous years should* matter too.

*not that anything "should" matter, frankly. It's an exhibition game.

Holy cow, Jose Ramirez has been good. 145 wRC+ tops Sano, Bryant, etc. 2nd best among 3B to Rendon (148), good defense too. 0.6-0.9 advantage in WAR over Sano so far...

I think he was hitting in the .280's coming into that 4 game series with the Twins, and now a couple weeks later and 7 games against Twins pitching, he's hitting .322.

I would rather it be based on the current year only. The voting system seems to be doing a pretty good job with that this year.

Yeah, Jose Ramirez is hitting great (better BA, OBP and SLG% than Sano) and he is at least an average defender (which Sano is not, with the worst DRS and the 2nd worst range for any of the 20 qualifying 3Bs).

Those are some fancy numbers for Ramirez, but does he sock dingers like Sano?

In all seriousness, MLB should consider going back to the quaint little punch cards they distributed at ball parks, or mail ins. Come to a game, you get to vote, you feed your ballot into a machine and your vote is counted exactly once.

That would result in all stars being almost directly linked to attendance of games played solely within the month of June. If you are complaining about Ramirez starting over Sano, you need to check the numbers. It's close. Coin flip IMO.

It would also result in one fan, one vote. Instead of the massive crush of individuals submitting hundreds of votes apiece at the last minute. Sano had a lead of hundreds of thousands of votes very recently.

Correct?

Correct?

Couldn't a person vote more than once if they went to more than one game?

Every year I look at the final results of the fan voting and every year I say to myself "we gotta take this away from the fans.

This is actually the first year that every starter elected by the fans makes sense based on performance. Every fan selected starter could be reasonably justified.

Impressive job by the fans this year.

I'm not sure why it was different this year.

Yes ... but not hundreds of times. There's a big difference between voting once a day, when you get a punch card at a game, than voting 100s of times a day from a computer.

got to be honest, for me, I started seeing fan voting trending positive a couple years ago. Yeah, there was usually one or two that made you shake your head a bit, but their picks seemed much better than some made by the players or coaches.

This year, I think the fans messed up 1B on both sides, but its mostly good. Players picks are a bit more off than the fans though.

Yes.

For shame.

Also, a skanky dad could send his kid around the stadium after a game and collect up the unused ballots to vote with.

Interesting, since it was "a couple years ago" that KC fans hacked the balloting. (Or maybe I should say KC trolls)

man, that was only two years ago. I had forgotten about that. Thanks for the reminder.

More information out there. That internet voters are conscience of. That's another reason why internet voting is best. Casual fans at the games are mostly uneducated about the game and the players other than perhaps those on their own team. I know "back in the day" literally all I had available were numbers that were published in the paper every Sunday. That's why it was essentially a popularity contest back then. There was no quick or easy (to say nothing of free) way to get detailed information about players.

Personally I would went with Goldschmidt with Votto a close consideration but I can't argue with the selection of Zimmerman. Zimmerman has been incredible this year.

In the American League... I'm shocked to say this but... I think Smoak is the right choice.

Every other position. I would have went with the guy chosen.... Maybe Bellinger over Osuna but Osuna isn't certainly worthy.

Hats off to the Fans!!!
