In case of game thread, break glass... (moderaters will fix if they choose to run w/ it

Kepler will never get better against LHP if they don't let him hit.

It also might be time to just realize Grossman is not all that good....

And no, Palka is not the answer.

Totally agree, but Grossman has a .400 OBP, which we needed a base runner in that situation.  Why are we using Pressly in this game?  Seems more like a mop up roll kinda day.

I was wondering yesterday who we could get to replace Grossman...bottom line is, we shouldn't have traded away Hicks.

Starting to get super annoyed that they won't let him hit lefties. He is way to young and talented to start platooning.

Kepler's still got kinks to work out, and he's not going to be a complete hitter unless the Twins keep rolling him out there against all comers.  Same for Vargas, Buxton, Polanco, and Rosario.   Those guys should be in every game...unless the Twins think some of them aren't in the future plans.

As LENIII points out, Grossman grounded into a DP on a 2-0 fastball down the heart of the plate to kill the late rally.  He's been riding the pine lately and should continue to do so.  Bad defense and bad offense from him.

Twins runs scored in each of the past 5 games:

1  W

4  W

3  L

3  L

1  L (probably)

You may be right that Palka isn't the answer but who is? We have an open DH spot and no one ot really fill it unless Vargas is better than he's shown. Vargas this year is reminding me a bit about last year - strong start that makes you think he's the guy, followed by a fast and brutal fall to earth.  Park should have made the team out of ST, maybe he;s the guy to give a shot?

Keep playing Vargas until someone forces their way up, or he hits like Buxton. Of course, I don't believe this is a playoff team, so I'm all in on gathering data....

I'm all for gathering data but I think we've gathered as much data on Vargas as we need over the last 3 plus seasons. I think we know what he is as a hitter and he adds nothing much in the field. 653 PAs, 597 ABs, .250/.305/.459, 190 SOs, 47 BBs, 28 HRs, 88 RBIs. Not terrible but add in the very streaky nature of his production with the bulk of it in 2014 and that very hot streak when he came up last year and its hard to see him as a long term DH (the only position he can really play). I'm in favor of moving the data gathering effort over to Park so we can make an appropriate comparison. If Park's no better, and he might not be, we can always go back to Vargas.

Data gathering this year includes a lot of PAs for Kepler, Rosario, Buxton and Polanco to see if they can make it IMHO. I wouldn't put Vargas in that group. He doesn't bring anything much other than his bat while the others do and he has had the longer time to show what he can do.

All very fair, I'm more "meh" on Grossman than Vargas, but that might not be rational, frankly.

Sorry.

My bad on the latter part.

I bet tonight we'll be treated to a real intro.

I don't think it was the intro that was the issue. I rather liked the intro. Unscheduled games tend to have threads like this.

Guys, kinda thought mine from last night would work for today since it was the same pitchers and lineups. My apologies that we went without. Going to get the night game up shortly.

I guess it was archived - I never checked. Truly apologize for leaving us high and dry for the day game.

Those numbers for Vargas are better than Mauer's the last 4 years. He's the guy that should sit more.
