Berardino: Twins value Ervin Santana's consistency, durability

Ervin Santana's name will be heard often in trade rumors this offseason. Mike Berardino talked to the Twins front office about the right-hander in this article

“I think we look at him as the anchor of our starting rotation and certainly something we want to build around,” Twins GM Thad Levine said. “We’re not looking to subtract from that group of players, but we’re also open to teams biting. That goes for any player.”

He provides consistency and innings with solid performance.

“He’s not a $13.5 million pitcher,” a rival executive said of Santana. “What’s he worth? Maybe half that. In this market, he’s probably an $8 million to $10 million guy. Teams know him. He’s been around. There’s a lot of mileage on that arm. He can pitch meaningful innings for you, but he’s not a dominant guy.”

I think we know he's not a true Ace or #1 starter on a strong team, but he's a solid #3... considering what a guy like Jeremy Hellickson will get this offseason, I have a hard time thinking that Santana wouldn't get more than $8-10 million per year.

That is such BS.

Yep. I tell "rival executives" in my fantasy football league that their players are worth half of mine all the time.... Doesn't mean I believe it, or that the rival executive believes Santana's only worth $8-10 million.

Geez Berardino, know when you're getting played.
