With the WBC going on, MLB spring training will start up earlier in 2017!

Pitcher and Catchers will report on Monday, February 13. First workout the next day.

The rest of the team is to report on Saturday, February 18, with the first full-squad workout on the 19th.

They will play 35 games, the first on February 25th.

The team will also host two games against WBC teams in early March, one against Team USA, another against Team Colombia.

Minnesota Day is March 12. That's always fun.

Any idea what this means for the minor league games on the back fields - not just intra-squad scrimmages, but the ones where other teams bus their players in?

Nothing official, but comparing it to previous years, I will guess that they'll report around March 12 and first games against other teams would be maybe the 18th or 19th.

I can't remember the last time they had spring training during the WBC (it was obviously very memorable) so maybe I'm missing something - do we really need six weeks of spring training games? Despite the Twins struggles this season I'm sure they will sell well in Florida but just looking at the schedule it seems excessive. Maybe with our new GM and baseball ops guy though it's a good thing.

ST continued and games were played during the WBC. There are still a lot of guys in camp who didn't (and won't this year) play on a WBC team. The roster obviously was a little depleted and they kept up some players longer into ST instead of being sent to the minors camp, but ST still happened. I've been to some portion of ST every year since 2001 and scattered years prior to that and since '91. It still happened. I don't recall, however, playing WBC teams before, but that could just be my memory.
