The greatest sports announcer of all time and, in my opinion, it's not a close contest.

With the added perspective that the Year 3000 brings, How-ward Co-sell seems to have gained the edge in Futurama.

But Scully ain't chipped beef on toast. I have to admit to being slow to warm up to him - I found him stuffy and pretentious while others were extolling his virtues - but he's darn good.

Every evening Twins game I attend, one of the first things I do is check the out of town scoreboard for when and where the Dodgers are playing.  If they're at home, I know immediately what game I'm listening to on the drive home.  I enjoy listening to him and I'll definitely miss him.  I do like the rest of the Dodgers radio team, but it's hard to envision that group without Scully.

The crazy thing I've been experiencing in the last year or so with my MLB.tv is going through to other teams' primary guys. Scully is gone after this year. After Jon Miller of the Giants retires someday, I'm really not sure who's even at 60% of Scully. When I was growing up, I loved to have the game of the week where they'd have the home team's broadcaster announce an inning of the game, and you'd get to hear voices like Mel Allen, Ernie Harwell, Jack Buck, Harry Caray, Harry Kalas, etc. Twins fans were blessed with Carneal for years as well.

I know Ueker's highly regarded, but he's just not in the same modality as those guys. Marty Brennaman is a personal favorite of mine still, but he's in a different style for sure.

Vin Scully is the only announcer in the history of baseball who was better than Herb Carneal.
