I just went back through the MVP selections and nope, I couldn't find anyone. I did find 1 player who was out of the league within 2 full seasons after winning the MVP After the 1925 season, Roger Thorpe Peckinpaugh won the AL MVP and his last game was the end of the 1927 season. I found 3 guys who were out 3 seasons after winning the MVP. Walter Johnson won it in1924, George Burns in 1926, and Mickey Cochran in 1934, they retired respectively in 1927, 1929, and 1937.

That's what a quick check showed anyways. It would not surprise me if I missed any.

Good work.

At least a couple more:

Lou Gehrig (36-39), Willie Stargell (79-82), Sandy Koufax (63-66). Koufax was second his last two years.

When are we going to release Nolasco? The Twins have to quit being so cheap.. He's not going to build a trade value.. So be done with him..

Fine the team. Fine all the teams. Throwbacks are awful.

I agree. I'm not even sure what the purpose of wearing them is ... nostalgia? But destroying team property is vandalism. If a random outsider did that, they'd get put in jail. If a staff member did that they'd be instantly fired and likely sued for damages. If the players don't like it they should get together and present their case. But destroying team property is a criminal act. He might be the team's ace, but he's also the team's problem child.

I didn't get a chance to post in advance, nor do I have time now for a real field report. But Ashburydavid and I attended the game last night. Outstanding experience for us, almost independent of the final outcome being in the Twins' favor. The Fenway crowd, at least in the area that we were in near third base, is a real treat. Total positive energy, toward their own team and not against the opponent. They took the overturned out call on Vargas completely in stride, where I was expecting an eruption. And I dare anyone NOT to smile during Sweet Caroline. Most of the crowd was still in attendance at the end, 4:11 from the first pitch. I haven't been to enough Sox games, for a variety of reasons, but I need to find excuses to go more often. Great baseball town.

Depends on how far back you are throwing. I think any uniforms worn between about 1970 and about 1987 should be off limits.

In about 2000 the Twins and the A's had a throwback day to about 1915. I thought the uni's looked OK but there were two errors: One, at that time players didn't have numbers on their jerseys. Two, Art Howe did not wear a suit like Connie Mack did when he was manager. Now that would have been cool.
