Game Thread: Twins @ Red Sox, 7/23 @ 6:10pm CT

I wonder if we're watching a transformation in the Twins. First half, they were screw-ups, giving away games left and right. Now they're starting to look like fighters that don't give up, and they can trade punches with the likes of the Boston Red Sox.

If the Twins do decide to unload a bunch of players, I'll be sad to see Fernando Abad go. Gotta love a guy that can throw a 95mph heater, then a 70mph straight change up.

Has any player won the MVP award and then retired? I've looked around but I can't find out.

I just went back through the MVP selections and nope, I couldn't find anyone. I did find 1 player who was out of the league within 2 full seasons after winning the MVP After the 1925 season, Roger Thorpe Peckinpaugh won the AL MVP and his last game was the end of the 1927 season. I found 3 guys who were out 3 seasons after winning the MVP. Walter Johnson won it in1924, George Burns in 1926, and Mickey Cochran in 1934, they retired respectively in 1927, 1929, and 1937.

That's what a quick check showed anyways. It would not surprise me if I missed any.

Thanks.  Not sure what happened- it didn't freeze, it went dark.  Now it's back.

Santana on the bases- everybody hang on.

Nolasco gets off the hook!

Well, maybe it's even given the game he pitched the other night and lost 1-0. The offense decided to give that one back to him.

Is that set in Boston?

I know Costner comes to Boston in Field of Dreams...

Seriously? A movie about Elliot Ness and Al Capone set in ... Boston???

For anyone watching, did you see the guy with the striped shirt on that Molitor walked past as he climbed the steps to go on the field? He's got the best job in baseball. He's the team barber.

I think this team is finding themselves. Going forward, I hope that they realize that it takes a whole season of playing well. They cannot under any circumstances start next season the way they did this year.

I think they missed Torii early on and the losing compounded the problem. I just know how it has been when I've lost a favored coworker who kept the job fun. There is an adjustment period.

Now they seem to realize that they can do this and make their own fun by winning.
