Game Thread: Twins @ Red Sox, 7/23 @ 6:10pm CT

1. Everyone remember to schedule an appointment with your manicurist after last night? There may be unreasonably long waits for walk in business after last night...

2. Hindsight: Any take-aways from last night's game? Can Buxton get a bunt down? Should Sano catch a pop-up? Does Grossman steal a base? Glad Dozier can clear the monster, and hopefully Sano can keep up the pop... Gibson sure settled down after the first!

3. Foresight: I'll let you all settle into this once the line-ups come out. But last night they mentioned Nolasco has a .500 record on the road. What's up with that? Does it bode?

4. Beantown: Beans are the musical fruit, and Boston is somewhat known for its music. (I did what you see there...) Much of 'em are vacationing at Tanglewood over the summer, so i hear. Y'all may be out of luck. Or perhaps you may have to settle for a less renown scene? They exist, but i'm not an expert, obtusely referencing a favorite scene from The Man Who Wasn't There, bringing me to my final thought...

5. Cinema. There are many movies set in the greater Boston area, but today at least, i have a clear favorite, and will abuse my privilege as intro-write to declare it:

Boondock Saints.

This is how i know that everyone is Irish on St. Paddy's day.

Now go ahead. Name a better movie. I might be wanting a bagel with my coffee...

Gettin' in ahead of the game, i will leave it to some good citizen to acquire merit by adding the line ups to the thread.

Enjoy the game!

Nolasco is pitching well because he's hoping to be traded to a contending team.

Yes, I'm that cynical.

Good job with the thread start.

Best movies filmed in Boston?

'Bad Girls Go to Hell'

Actually, don't know that movie but saw it on a list and laughed.

But ones I've seen and think are good, in no particular order:

Good Will Hunting

Next Stop Wonderland

The Town

The Verdict

Spotlight

Zombie in a Penguin Suit

Okay, that last one was a joke, too, but has anyone seen it?

Buxton's bunt was horrendous. With 2 outs, Sano just figured it was a good time to make sure to remind everybody that he's not an outfielder.

Gibson settled down after the first - batter. That was really the only mistake he made in the game. It looked like the first could get ugly, but remember that he actually struck out Pedroia, though he still reached base, and Xander reached on an infield hit. Great to see Gibby get the double play and get out of the inning. Was definitely an impressive pitching performance against the league's best offense.

If i get a chance, i'll check out the the first and last, but alas, probably won't go out of my way.

Good Will Hunting is appropo, and is an easy choice all around.

Side note: i was there when they showed the movie at MIT, along with perhaps a couple thousand others watching it over the course of a weekend. It highlight the fine distinction between filmed in and set in...

Rumor has it much of the recent Ghostbuster movie was actually filmed in Boston. Word is also that it is worth seeing.

At Fenway near Pesky Pole. Grossman's triple was a lazy fly ball off the bat before God himself intervened.

Grossman hits what looks like a routine fly to right-center, and it blows way past the right fielder and hits off the wall for a triple.  Meanwhile, at home plate the wind is blowing litter into the third base stands.  Looks like an interesting night ahead.  Sano + popup = ???

Is it supposed to rain in Boston? That wind looks intense. I'm watching on FSN on mute & listening to the Red Sox Spanish broadcast & their announcers are calling for the umpires to delay the game because of the wind.

Anybody else notice how generous the strike zone seems to be for Price?

First strike to Vargas looked well outside to me.

I wonder if the umpires are trying to wait until the half inning ends to delay the game so they're trying to move it along faster.
