Funny how quickly things change

I declare deanlambrecht's rant, the single greatest posting in the history of Twins Daily.  And he, the greatest poster in internet history, although I get we should probably wait till he hits 1000 Twinsdaily posts before we judge him GOAT for sure.  The only thing I don't get is where this notion of forum hyperbole comes from?  I've literally never done that.

I agree there are a lot of knee jerk reactions brought up on here and, you know what, that is ok.  People can have opinions and are entitled to them.

To get back on topic, I was really hoping Nolasco would turn out to be the guy we thought we were getting when we signed him.  I know that there is a lot of displease in him and I get it.  I hope, as a competitor, some of his issues were injuries and being frustrated when coming back from injuries.  Others have posted too that he has a lot to gain.  I just hope he stays healthy and can be a servicable piece on this roster in whatever capacity they use him.  I did read on mlb trade rumors that Atlanta was interested in taking on bad contracts in order to acquire competitive balance picks (which we have one).

As far Arcia, I hope he learned from last year and humbled himself a little.  I couldn't imagine being 22 years old and on a MLB roster.  Yeah, i would have taken things for granted too.

This, exactly this.  I can see where people who tend to agree with management very often/almost always would think other-wise.

And sometimes/often, they aren't knee-jerk reactions at all.  Sometimes stuff is said way ahead of time and when things happen to back up what was said and it's pointed out, people THINK it's a knee-jerk reaction.

Hey! Be nice.

And as for Nolacso, we were never going to get enough value for him in a trade to offset what he might provide, namely, what we've gotten from so far this year.

And come on, most people here wanted Arcia to get another shot.

Great to see what he's done with it so far!

WARNING:  I'm going a rant.

Here's what I like about the OP: it points out what I think is one of the biggest problems with commenters on this site.  What drives me right around the bend is people jumping to conclusions about players/teams on an impossibly small, and certainly statistically insignificant, sample size.

As to players, e.g., there's the thread now that suggests that Buxton is a flop.  Ridiculous.  The rule of thumb is not to judge a player's offensive capabilities until he's had 1000 at-bats at the big league level.  That generally means that we shouldn't judge a player until he's been in the bigs for a bit over two years.  Yet here we are with Buxton barely at 1/8th that number and someone starts a thread concluding that he's a flop.

As to teams, I don't think another illustrative example is needed because it's plain to see that a number of commenters have already concluded that this season is kaput; just like they did last season, which wasn't kaput until game 160.

And while I'm at it, I'll also take the opportunity to point out the ridiculous level of hyperbole we see in threads and comments here.  There's a thread right now that says that Terry Ryan is a "failure of biblical proportions," or some such nonsense.  Look, I have serious disagreement with many of TR's decisions.  I wish the Pohlad's would replace him and the majority of the front office staff, frankly.  But there is nothing remotely "biblical" about any single baseball decision.  Ever.  It's baseball.  When we throw around malarkey like "failure of biblical proportions" or make wild claims that "[player X] is the WORST PLAYER EVER," it detracts from the quality of this otherwise excellent baseball website.

And that's my point.  The gentlemen who pooled their impressive talent to start this website did so based on the premise that the hyperbole and assumptions that we saw in the “mainstream press” and in the comment sections found there were not serving the community of baseball fans who have come to love TwinsDaily; that those things detracted from the joy of baseball and the corollary joy of baseball analysis.  So those commenters who engage in such behavior are doing a disservice to the readers and the founders of TwinsDaily, and ultimately to themselves.

Those folks, and those who feed into them by responding in a similar manner, aren’t only making themselves look bad, however.  They’re making us all look bad.  They’re creating a situation where outsiders will be less able to take this website seriously.  TwinsDaily, and those who started the site, are a tremendous credit to baseball and to the Twins and their fans.  Let’s do what we can to keep it that way.

/end rant

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of TD readership.  I'd guess less than  5% of readers account for 95% of comments, and that is not really me being hyperbolic.  i've been reading and commenting since the beginning, and post at roughly the same rate as I did on Sethspeaks, and my post numbers are dwarfed.  I read a lot of comment sections for pure entertainment purpose, kind of like watching a Republican primary debate.

Point being, the comments section here don't represent a very broad cross-section of the readership, in my opinion.

Who was that guy last night with Feins number on his jersey hitting 94-95 on the outside black consistanly.

Nice job Casey. He gets so little love around here so my hats off to him last night.

Without movement and a good change-up, I doubt the regained speed of his fastball will help provide much more than momentum for home runs.

Yeah, last night was probably for the best. It seemed like Molitor was trusting putting Fien in late in close games again. Hopefully this puts him back into mop-up duty.

Also, 13.5 H/9. Yikes.

i too would be interested, but I think your rate is too lopsided. This isn't the STrib, and maybe a 25/75 commenter per reader would be pretty incredible investment. I'd be shocked if it was less than 10/90.

To the topic I wouldn't lump Arcia in with Nolasco. But yeah I'd still like to see Nolasco get traded at first opportunity.

I sure hope that's correct (and I suspect that it is).
