Everybody Wants Some(thing to list)

Pardon My Dinger

Have you guys seen Everybody Wants Some yet? So much fun. In my opinion, it has immediately thrust itself into the cannon of great baseball movies even though there's extremely little baseball in it. In that regard, it's kind of like, what the Thin Red Line is to war movies, Everybody Wants Some is to baseball movies.

It's forced me to make some adjustments to my list. Titles followed by rationale.

1. Major League - Counting 1 and 2 together here. Half of the things I say throughout the course of my everyday life are from Billy Madison. The other half are from Major League.

2. The Sandlot - God, I wish that I could have had that childhood. I watch it annually.

3. Bull Durham - I insist upon believing that the characters in this movie are the truest representation of baseball people that the world has ever seen on screen. Also - hilarious.

4. Baseball (Ken Burns) - Need to break open the smelling salts at times, but holy moly. That's a thorough history.

5. Everybody Wants Some - See Bull Durham, but arguably funnier.

6. Rookie of the Year - "Excuse us ladies...excuse us."

7. The Natural - Because there have to be at least one real movie on this list.

8. Bronx is Burning - It's not quite a movie, and it's not quite a show...but, man!

9. A League of Their Own - Those skirts can ball.

10. Bad News Bears - In my book, children saying swears and smoking cigarettes is going to land you in the top ten in any category.

So...how's about yous?

Any list that doesn't have "for love of the game" is invalid imo. My all time favorite baseball movie. Bad news bears should also be higher on the list.

I've never seen For the Love of the Game. I didn't realize this was a must-watch. Looks like "movie people"  hate it, but perhaps "baseball people" do not.

It's a sappy Costner baseball movie; of course movie critics hate it. I did like it quite a bit. I also like Hudson Hawk and 1941, so film critics mean about as much to me as baseball critics do.

The only baseball movies I've ever seen are Moneyball, A League of Their Own, 42, and Sandlot. The list, of course, is invalid because it doesn't include For Love of the Game, but the closest I ever came to watching a Costner movie was when I got bored halfway through Field of Dreams and quit. Not up to another go at that. :)

Btw, does everyone hate Moneyball or something? Because of the 4 1/2 I've watched, that was by and far my favorite.

Moneyball's cool. I forgot about it...but, I still don't think it makes my list.

For love of the game is for baseball people imo. There are a lot if truths to anyone that has spent time on a diamond. For some reason, i just like it. I also like bull durhama lot. And tin cup... so maybe i like costern's style. Not must see, but worth it.

And Field of Dreams is stoopid boring. Not a fan.

Field of Dreams is on my all-time top 10 movies list. To each his/her own, I guess.

And very often, extremely important films with huge acclaim don't hold my attention because I'm too dumb. So it goes.

So there was this guy named Lawrence. And he went to Arabia...

I don't think it has anything to do with your intelligence ... I can't stand the expansive, sweeping epics like Out of Africa and The English Patient. It's just a matter of preference. But Field of Dreams is still in my top 10. :) One of my all-time favorite lines ...'Peace, Love, Dope! ... NOW GET THE HELL OUT!'

Yeah, that's another that I yawned through.

Oh, trust me. It's 100% intelligence. I am, how you say, "a little slow."

More's the pity he didn't say that as Darth Vader.

I also highly recommend For the Love of the Game.  It has sappy stuff, but it does really tell a great story.  Vin Scully was the perfect guy to do the stadium voice, the Yankee fans are just spot on and as a baseball fan it does tug a little bit at the heartstrings.

Rookie of the Year is in the top 1 of all-time... Brickma is a gem of a character. I think every kid my age at one point in time tried the hidden ball trick and came up unsuccessful.

For Love of the Game was my go-to date movie. Any woman who could appreciate both the romance of the relationship and the game in that movie would be a woman that had a future with me. My wife passed with flying colors.

I love some of the old movies like Pride of the Yankees and Fear Strikes Out, but some of the best baseball stories out there would be Bang the Drum Slowly and Long Gone, and you can never be bored with The Bingo Long Travelling All-Stars
