From what I can tell, the gist of the tale is, "Mauer takes strike one right down the center of the plate." Isn't that how he always was, even before the concussion? Or am I remembering wrong?

And then the moral of the story is, "Mauer went 0-3." First of all, I feel like the fact he took strike one looking three at bats in a row has little to do with the fact he didn't get a hit today. Furthermore, as someone pointed out in the game thread, so did Sano. Glasses, anyone?

Anyway, it's been established that it was cloudy today. The only person I know who wears sunglasses on cloudy days is my little brother, and he doesn't do it to protect his eyes but rather to make use of a chic fashion accessory which completes his look. That being the case, I feel like Mauer not wearing sunglasses had about as much effect on his game as Mauer not wearing a beard did.

He said he was going to experiment with sunglasses this spring. He said he didn't have issues every game. Just occasionally. He's been taking some batting practice with glasses.

He's someone, and most think it's wise, who takes a lot of pitches early in spring training to see pitches. Not a big deal in the regular season, much less in the spring.

Excuse me, but you did conclude that it was a possibility that the reason he didn't wear sunglasses was because he was not experiencing symptoms. I've seen other posts where I fully agree with you, but yes, on this topic, we have different opinions. Glad we're able to voice them... which is what a forum is for.

I think Seth has answered this adequately.

As for discussing this issue, I don't think we need to analyze and pick apart every single at bat, every single pitch Joe does/does not swing at during ST. That is not discussion. Let's wait to see how ST goes first. All players use ST differently. It is there for them to ready themselves for the season, to try out new things, to hone a particular skill or to just find their in game routines again. While it would be great to see everyone get hits at every at bat, and yes, there is particular concern with Joe, let's just give the Joe issue a rest for now and see how ST goes.

One of those at bats he drilled a bullet down the right field line foul, which I took as very encouraging, pulling the ball. It's not like he had bad at bats, as some would like one to believe.

Thank you for being sane, Seth.

March 5th, people. March 5th.

With that said, I'm locking the thread. This thread doesn't reflect the kind of discussion we want on Twins Daily and it has been on the front page of the forum for weeks.

Do not attempt to revive or create new Mauer threads until something happens that's worth discussing.
