Low dollar signing takes pressure off the player as well, IMO. No one should be screaming if doesn't perform from day 1. Four years to recoup $25 million is a pretty safe bet.

I too am relieved it came in fairly low.  I was excited to see him either way, but $40+ mil total was looking like a very suspect gamble.

 

(As it is, it's still a suspect gamble to invest $25 mil in another 1B/DH type and move Sano to the outfield in the process, when it doesn't look like we're willing to spend even half that mount on addressing the bullpen this winter.)

 

But like I said, I like to see new and exciting players, and we got one, so that will be fun.

I doubt players are really eager to take lower salaries in exchange for lower pressure.

 

There's a reason that the Japanese posting system was reformed, and I expect some of those reforms will be extended to Korea now too.
