Bold Prediction: Hunter offers job to Buxton next week

I predict next week Torii Hunter will walk into the manager's office and offer up his right field job to Aaron Hicks for the remainder of the year, thus freeing up Paul Molitor/Terry Ryan to call up Byron Buxton to play center field for the rest of the year.

My thinking: It has dawned on Torii Hunter (an intelligent mentor who has been playing pretty dreadfully lately) that his presence in right field is holding back Buxton who, at the very least, seems ready to try to emulate his good friend Miguel Sano at the Major League level.

If it doesn't happen, I'm wrong.

I like bold predictions, even when I find them based on fantasy and lunacy. I can agree, the last line is 100% accurate though!

On the other hand, I predict next week Torii Hunter will walk into the manager's office and offer up Joe Mauer's 1B job to Trevor Plouffe for the remainder of the year, thus freeing up Paul Molitor/Terry Ryan to call up Byron Buxton to play center field, move Aaron Hicks to RF, Hunter to DH, and Miguel Sano to 3B.

If it happens, I will be flabbergasted!

I would be also, why would you want Hunter at DH.

To rest when he isn't batting or when Mauer plays DH.

See the big smile everyday on Torii's face. Why not? 10m, having a great time doing what he enjoys. Current face of the franchise, quoted everyday. You think he's giving that up this year. Or next? The only difference next year, is you can add Kepler to the list of names he is blocking. And he will be the reason they end up trading Arcia!

Since July 1 Hunter is hitting .158.

Even he must see the writing on the wall.

Yes, he could play out the season, and yes, he could play next year. I don't doubt those things are more likely to happen than my bold prediction.

But you laugh now ...

In a week, if my predication hasn't come true I'll eat my shoe. I will. (Virtually, that is.)

He is much more likely to punch Hicks in the face then give him the RF spot

And he might be even more likely to attempt to punch Hicks, miss, and hit Shane Robinson instead.

I miss Punto now :(

Are you familiar with the baseball term "SLUMP"?

Hunter's troubles appear to be deeper than a slump. Every car runs out of the gas if you drive it long enough. Is Torii done? I don't know. I hope not. I like Torii Hunter. I gave him a ride in my taxi one time (when I drove a taxi), and he was as cool to me as he is with his teammates. That says something about a person. We drove by the Dome and I asked him about it and he said, "Blow it up! Blow it up!" and many years later they did. And now he's back. It's cool. But I want to win, and I think Torii wants to win, too, so I'm betting (facetiously) that he will do an honorable thing now by voluntarily stepping aside, to accept a part-time roll for the sake of his protege Byron Buxton.

I can take your ridicule. Just don't hit me with a bat.
