Doesn't happen feet first......"just feel dizziness", that's code for we are likely to ignore this concussion, right?

Wish I could find the thread where I said Buxton should slide feet first.......

Didn't Morneau slide feet first when he got his concussion?

that's one......

so, ya, it could happen. But let's not kid ourselves that sliding feet first is not more safe than head first.

I'm pretty sure he was breaking up a DP but my memory is hazy.

Kind of proving my point......there are some plays not worth making, aren't there? Justin was trying to save one out, and instead side trekked his entire life/career.

I have no issues with guys breaking up the DP. It happens thousands of times a year and guys don't get hurt doing it. It was a weird play that could have happened almost anywhere on the diamond.

Here's the play. It's just weird. Justin actually turns toward the second baseman's knee. If he leans away from the fielder or just stays upright, he slides into the base without issue. If the shortstop doesn't bobble the ball, the second baseman throws the ball to first without issue.

and why does he turn toward his knee? to break up a double play?

Either way, it wasn't a slide on a steal, or a slide trying to stretch for an extra base.......

My point is that could have happened on any play at any time while sliding into a base. It was an unfortunate event but not the kind of thing you can train runners to avoid. Sliding is part of baseball and collisions will happen from time to time. That was, again unfortunately, a worst case scenario of the event.

No matter how you slide, you have to learn to see what's in front of you and minimize straight-on collisions. Slipping punches, shoulder rolls, slides, pivots, etc, all keep you from smashing directly into things or vice versa.

Of course none of these will keep you from getting hit in the back of the head by a baseball thrown by a stupid outfielder during practice, and I was unconscious for two minutes from that one...grrr.... Lucky now I can think all gooder again.
