Mediocrity =Good Race

I tend to check the standings after a Twins win, so that has been every other day. I was amazed a while back that the Twins were ahead in the Wild Card race, now today I check and they are still leaders despite not having won two consecutive games in about three weeks.

The tail-enders are only seven games behind the Twins, meaning every team could make a case that they still have a chance for post-season glory. The Royals and Astros have been the two best teams for most of the season, but just about every other team is a hot week away from being in the conversation.

So who will be new Buyers and who will be new Sellers at the coming trade deadline? In the NL, Phils and Marlins are obvious sellers, but that's been true for weeks. Brewers seemed to have expectations but I assume they'll listen to offers now. Rockies are probably sellers, I wonder if the Padres will punt now on this season and position themselves for next year as well? In the AL, nobody is really stinky; I guess you can count on Oakland to be open to any kind of random looking moves given their losing record at the moment.

No true sellers in the AL. Might see moves where teams trade mlb pieces for mlb pieces.

Look at the last 10 games record for every team in the AL Central as of today (7-7-2015).  That is the definition of mediocrity.

The Reds will be sellers too.  They aren't catching St. Louis and they have few expiring contracts that they could use to load up the farm system.

I think the White Sox should be selling as well.  They'll be selling some pieces, but I don't think they'll tear everything down and start over.

The Rays have been on a steady decline for the last month or so.  I don't see them as huge sellers though.

With the new wild card system, it really has made teams looks at being buys and sellers in the same year.  There isn't too many teams willing to do a full tear down, because they get close enough to the playoffs.  It makes for some interesting discussions/trades.

The Reds will sell once the All-Star game has passed. There are some who think the Reds could see Chapman, Cueto, Votto, Bruce, and Frazier all moved between the All-Star game and July 31.

Yeah, the Reds have to sell. Once Pittsburgh turned white-hot, their chances of being even a fringe contender approached zero.

I think one AL Central team could be sellers, but yet have to accept that fate yet.... The Motor City Kitties.
