Are The Twins A Top 10 Team? ESPN's Buster Olney Says So

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Minnesota Twins are currently the NINTH best team in baseball.

It's a fairly accurate portrayal considering the Twins own baseball's ninth best record and the American League's best home record. It's early, sure, but you cannot say you are not having fun. Winning is so much better than not winning.

Not really clear what his "power rankings" mean. The Twins are obviously not the 9th best team in baseball in terms of talent, rest of season projection, etc. If you mostly go by record, then the ranking is pointless (as Olney's appears to be).

Mets have a better record than the Twins and are behind them in Olney's rankings.

Assume it simply means Olney feels the Twins are playing the 10th best baseball at the moment, which isn't an unreasonable conclusion. They're doing several things right.

But he does have the 10 best winning percentages in his top 10.

Actually, the top 5 winning percentages are in his top 5, and 6-10 in winning percentage are in his 6-10 spots.  The few out of order appear to be based on their record in the last 10 games too (Cards, Astros, Mets down a little, Dodgers, Twins, and Nationals up a little)

Means absolutely nothing.

Except that the perception around baseball is that this is a good team.  They are playing good baseball so why do we have to decide what it 'means?'  It means we aren't the worst team in the league...don't be so negative

Means absolutely nothing to me either, Washington is playing as well as anyone right now, and were suppose to be number 1 with that pitching.

ESPN is notorious for coming out with "power rankings", but they're really just sorted by wins and losses with a couple of the teams are switched around.

Nothing is not negative. Nor is it positive. It's nothing.

I'm glad that the Twins are more watchable this year, but as I've said before what's most important for the Twins to do this year is to develop their young talent. What Buster Olney thinks means absolutely nothing.
