Pius Jefferson Verified Member Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 That hardly seems fair.
kab21 Verified Member Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 The only defensible reason is that at some point journalists have to have proof otherwise it is libel. I 100% agree with Simmons.
drjim Provisional Member Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 He's right about Goodell, but a good rule of thumb is not to threaten your bosses.
ashbury Verified Member Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 ESPN is so in bed with the NFL that there's a limit to how much criticism it will allow.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 Here was the top entry in the Deadspin comments section: Ray Rice gets two weeks (initially). Stephen A. Smith implies the future Mrs. Rice had it coming, he gets two weeks. Bill Simmons gets three weeks for doing his job and calling for accountability for all involved.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted September 25, 2014 Posted September 25, 2014 ESPN is so in bed with the NFL that there's a limit to how much criticism it will allow. In fairness (and god do I despise that you made me post this) - they did run an OTL exposing cover ups by the Ravens just a few days ago. That said, this is an awesome move for Simmons to make ESPN look pathetic. And anyone that makes ESPN look bad is doing good work in my book. Now just take Grantland and be your own thing Simmons.
Paul Pleiss Verified Member Posted September 27, 2014 Posted September 27, 2014 Also, ESPN similiarily suspended someone for going after Bud Selig a few years back. So, at least their consistent. Simmons should be proud of his suspension. I got warned in this very forum for suggesting the Twins front office didn't know how baseball works. Sometimes you have to say what you have to say and consequences be damned.
