yes, I eat with her at home, but eat what I want away from hone, or when I cook for myself. I enjoy her cooking, but also enjoy bacon

Do you have separate frying pans ... ones for bacon, ones for not?

I think I could give up meat (and have done so for various periods of time) but I just can't give up dairy.  And although i don't use a dozen eggs in a month, I still want them when i bake.

Could be Jewish ...

true, she's not though... Her eating habits are entirely health based

See. you need to come to Iowa for steak.

Archie's Waeside, Le Mars.  Absolutely no ambiance (they have Christmas houses, etc. plus wood paneling all over.)

But dry aged steaks that everyone swears by.  And it'll cost you about 1/2 (or less) of those Chicago prices.

Personally I find the steak that people declare to be excellent to be mushy but that's because I like "chew" in my food.  (I hate purees -- I'll wait until I'm in the nursing home and can't chew anymore).

Since food seems to be the topic du jour, Chief and Mrs Chief are in the process of cooking dinner:

chicken fried steak

mashed potates (with a little cream cheese, sour cream, and onion salt)

gravy

candied carrots

We're...uh...not vegan.

Need a little comfort food tonight, Chief?

If I lived nearby, you'd be getting a knock on your door in about 5 minutes.

I'm starting with Octopus... Only because I've never had octopus.

I'll have the Filet Oscar and I'll complain about the price before it arrives. Lobster Mac and Cheese on the side.

Vanilla Bean Cheesecake for dessert and a Guinness to drink.

Is beer still vegan if you use it to wash down the Filet Oscar?

Much easier... I'll have the Ribeye with an ice cream sundae.

We're good cooks, too, Mrs Chief and I.

She cooks, I eat.

If you are ever in the area, and manage to survive Chicago traffic, that will be my treat.  It's a neighborhood joint.

mmm I love octopus. We had a really good lettuce and orzo salad with edamame, carrots and sautéed sweet corn for dinner, and a New Belgium brewing Rampant IPA to drink

Next Summer... It's a date. I'm doing a road trip to the east coast and since I can't drive through Lake Michigan.. It'll funnel me right into your neck of the woods.
