I'd wager Hicks misses that one too

It was hard hit... Only pure speed would have reached it... Santana did not look good on the ball but he could have looked great and still not made the catch. It was stroked.

Mauer is now 1 for 1 swinging at the first pitch, and 0 for 3 letting it go by. I know he's a future Hall of Famer, but honestly, does he not see this?

 

You swing with 0 strikes if it's a pitch you like. Not a pitch the pitcher meant to throw. That's going to skew the results. To me, a swing-and-a-miss on a first pitch would be the one to question, though of course now and then it'll happen.
