Two weeks ago, I wrote an article about who the top five prospects who should be promoted are. Earlier this week, two of them indeed were promoted when Kohl Stewart was promoted from Fort Myers to Double-A Chattanooga and Randy LeBlanc was promoted to High-A Fort Myers to take over Stewart's place in the rotation. Stewart had a bit of a rough last few starts in Fort Myers, giving up seven earned runs in 11 innings over his last two starts. But before then, he was lights out. He finished this s
A few photos from Tuesday night's and Wednesday afternoon's games in Oakland. Possibly one of the last photos taken of Miguel Sano before his trip to the 15-day DL. Notice the tear in his left trouser leg. Left hamstring injury next time up to bat... coincidence? I think not. "Sorry son, that's strike three. By the way, I forgot to say, welcome back to the majors." Gulls just wanna have fun. Another Dull relief appearance. God, I slay me. Reggie Jackson, Rollie Fingers, and (no
A successful stolen base back on May 18 ignited a minor controversy recently in Twins territory. Holding a four run lead in the top of the 7th, the Detroit Tigers were playing it safe against the left handed batter, Joe Mauer. There were two outs, and the Tigers infielders were favoring the right side of the diamond, where any ground ball off Mauer's bat was likely to be hit. Tigers third baseman Nick Castellanos was playing well off third. Twins outfielder Eddie Rosario, who was the runner on s
More than 100 years ago Minnesota was home to one of the best baseball teams in the country. The St. Paul Colored Gophers, who in 1909 beat the Chicago-based Leland Giants for the title of “Blackball World Champions,” are just one of the teams highlighted in the new book “They Played for the Love of the Game: Untold Stories of Black Baseball in Minnesota” by Frank White. A thoroughly researched addition to our state’s history, this title is also visually appealing with the inclusion of approxi

About the only thing separating him from the tortured Bob Seger that penned “Turn the Page” back in 1972 is that he isn’t subjected to riding a bus somewhere east of Omaha with locals at truck stops making snide remarks about his long hair. It's June, and the Twins are the worst team in baseball. They've currently been swept half as often as they have won games, and this season has gone the opposite of any expectations could have laid out. With a couple of months left to the trade deadline, it may be time for Terry Ryan to start sending his chips to the table. Minnesota doesn't have many any big names, but there's pieces that are worth moving. Despite Major League Baseball dictating trades being allowed (in the traditional sense)
Quick report from Oakland: Sano trying to swipe at that one flyball "triple" by Burns in the second inning didn't look any prettier from a seat right behind the fair-foul pole than it must have from the normal camera view. In fairness, the A's right fielder (I think it was still Coughlan) returned the favor almost identically, in the fifth as a favor to Grossman. Ragged game.
Recently, Byron Buxton was brought back into the fold for the Minnesota Twins. I've talked plenty about why I think he can stick this time, and how Buxton along with Miguel Sano, can begin to usher in a new era for the Twins. It's in the latest outfield roster move that continues to further cements the Minnesota future though. In a game against the Oakland Athletics, Sano was trying to hustle out a grounder to break up a double play (he ended up being safe), but unfortunately pulled his hamstrin

Whitley's repertoire consists of a fastball that reaches 97 miles per hour, a buckling curveball, an improved changeup, and an average slider. Forrest repeats his delivery well for someone of his size, and although there is some effort in it he should be able to hold up as a starter. If Whitley does have to ma

There were to pretty distinct narratives that were expected to play out for the Minnesota Twins over the course of the 2016 Major League Baseball season. Many in the area saw this group as a potential playoff contender, and it was expected that their young stars would begin to emerge. While the playoff picture has been erased, the transition towards youth may now be getting off of the ground. After putting together an impressive rookie campaign, expectations for Miguel Sano in his sophomore se
While in the Majors on Sunday the Twins were completing a three-game sweep of the Seattle Mariners behind the bats of Joe Mauer and Miguel Sano, who combined for six home runs in the series, in the minors there was another powerful swing of the bat that contributed to a huge come from behind victory. The Twins took the day off, but there was a full slate of Minor League games on Thursday night. Byron Buxton hit a dinger and Felix Jorge had one of the best outings of his career. Continue reading to find out more detail about Thursday in the Twins farm system: RED WINGS REPORT Indianapolis Indians @ Rochester Box Score Despite having Jose Berrios on the bump and a 2-4 day from Byron Buxton that included a triple and a home run, the Wings could not keep up with the Indianapolis Indians.
With almost two full months of the season in the books, the number of Twins fans who believe there’s a playoff run in the cards has dwindled to almost nil. Those left clinging to hope are doing so against all visual and statistical evidence. Some fans are actively rooting for the team to break the Cleveland Spiders’ record for losses in a season (154) to make sure the Braves don’t nick the first overall pick in the 2017 draft, to maximize the probability of a front office overhaul, or because it
Baseball and the Minnesota Twins, have watched as the number one prospect has scuffled in his first few tastes of the big leagues. Byron Buxton has just 63 major league games under his belt, but they've gone anything but according to plan. Following his latest Triple-A stint though, is a corner about to be turned? Having won the starting centerfield job out of the gate, Byron Buxton was given the reigns for the Twins. He played a strong centerfield as was expected, but turned in a dismal .156/

In attendance was Commissioner Bud Selig, Hall of Famers Hank Aaron, Rod Carew, Paul Molitor and Bert Blyleven, as well as Tony Oliva and an All-Star lin
Most of the work that Sam Clay and AJ Murray did together during their shared time at Georgia Tech was confined to the bullpen, but this season the pair of former Yellow Jackets have played critical roles together for the Midwest League Western Division-leading Cedar Rapids Kernels. Clay, a lefty who was the Minnesota Twins’ fourth round draft pick in 2014, carries a 3-1 record and a 1.10 ERA into his Wednesday night start at Burlington. He has averaged more than a strikeout per inning in his
A worse fate for Cold Omaha could not have gone as well As watching the team called the Twins go completely to hell. There are infielders in the outfield and young outfielders looking in, Batters missing pitches and ineffective pitchers in the pen. Old arms are throwing homers while young flamethrowers are being hosed, Sitting in the minors counting the years on their toes. The manager seems baffled, the front office unaware While fans are leaving the stadium headed anywhere but there. Minnesota
The 2016 Minnesota Twins are an absolute dumpster fire. Through 45 games, they own an 11-34 record, and there's really no reason to believe there will be a significant change any time soon. What seemed possible to be a second straight exciting season for the Twins has turned into nothing short of a nightmare. At the middle of it all is their newly appointed leader, Brian Dozier. Recently, I touched on the defiance of Dozier's approach at the plate, and how it's there that his leadership has fa
I am not a follower of Donald Trump. I have participated in several no kings rallies and am disgusted with what he and his followers have done to our country and the world. I would like to know what most Brazilians feel about the United States now and about the folks our citizens have elected to represent us.
