Originally posted at http://troystwinsdugout.wordpress.com/2014/03/27/given-recent-trade-history-trevor-may-has-to-pan-out-for-the-twins/ When the Twins traded Ben Revere to the Philadelphia Phillies during the 2012-2013 offseason, it looked like the Twins were winners in that trade, having received a couple of pitchers. Vance Worley had previous pitching experience in the majors with the Phillies. Trevor May was one of the Phillies better pitching prospects. Since then, Worley has turned i
There was no rain in Fort Myers on Wednesday. That’s the good news. The bad news is that it was pretty breezy and high temperatures for the day barely, if at all, reached 70 degrees. I know that sounds good to a lot of people, but I had to wear long sleeves much of the day at the ballpark and was a bit chilly eating dinner outdoors tonight! But I toughed it out, because I know my readers expect me to do whatever it takes to get the story. Today, that story comes from the minor league side
Originally posted at Kevin Slowey was Framed! Prior to the 2013 season, I made ten Minnesota Twins predictions. Of those ten, I nailed six. Honestly, that's a pretty good success rate. However, two of the ten that I missed, I missed badly. Here's a very quick recap on my predictions from last year: Good: Justin Morneau will be traded. Josh Willingham will not be traded. Rich Harden will not be good. Joe Mauer will not win the AL batting title. Oswaldo Arcia, Aaron Hicks and Kyle Gib
On this week's show there is a lot of discussion about recent subtractions (and an addition) to the Twins roster as they continue to trim down to their 25-man roster. Jason Kubel will make the team and both Scott Diamond and Vance Worley will be pitching elsewhere in 2014. We discuss who is the last man in/out as the Twins trim the roster to 25 and then we take a look ahead at who will be the division winners and playoff contenders for 2014. We have all dreamed, hypothesized, and written out the lineup, rotation and bullpen on napkins for the past 6 months. We've all scratched out, thought about it, and scribed again. The final 25 to begin the season is nearly complete. The only drama to begin the season is the final 12 th and 13th spots of the player roster. And IF you assume Barlett is gone and Presley is in, there is only one spot open to see. This year more than others, a transition year as some youngsters get their first pro
http://cdn.fansided.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/2/files/2014/03/7444846-590x900.jpg In an interesting move, the Minnesota Twins placed Scott Diamond on waivers Wednesday, giving the other teams in the league until Thursday to make a move to claim him. The move is interesting for several different reasons, seeing that it was not that long ago that Diamond appeared to emerge as a pitcher who could become part of the permanent rotation going forward. Diamond was the Twins top pitcher in 2012 (insert
Another regular season is upon us and that means that it is prediction time for a lot of writers across the inter-web. There will be surprise teams, surprise players, and even some other surprises along the way. The unknown and unpredictability of baseball is one of the most enduring qualities of "America's Past-time." Through out the coming week, I will be making my picks for the National League and the American League, taking a closer look at the AL Central, and selecting awards for the Twin
He was there again this morning. In khaki shorts, an old t-shirt and a ball cap, he was unassuming. He easily could have been missed, but I noted his presence in the back of my mind. The first time I saw him, I couldn't figure out the meaning. He wound up and fired again and again. His easy left handed arm action suggesting he had done this many times before. The big wall in the center of the complex was his catcher, returning each throw on a roll so he could reload and unfurl another. Every pit

Spring Training is winding down for the Twins. Tune in at ten as my dad and I will talk about our experiences when we were at a Twins spring training game while vacationing in Fort Meyers. We'll also predict what the final roster will look like come opening day. Apparently the D-Backs are interested in moving Didi Gregorius and have discussed a deal with the Pirates. This would certainly be worth a call. He is a slick fielding 24 year old. He may never hit a ton, but he has a respectable .250 average, .329 OBP, .693 OPS in 380 MLB at bats as a 23 year old (7 HR). His numbers in the minors were between .700 and .750 OPS. I would not give up Buxton, Sano, Meyer, or Kohl. But he would be an upgrade at SS and he would fit in nicely with our young
Recently we have heard beloved leader Ron Gardenhire extol the virtues of "flexibility" when constructing a roster. I agree. In fact, I will go one step further: I think the roster should be constructed to allow for the flexibility of platooning several positions within the lineup.* Although the Twins have had fewer financial restrictions since the opening of Target Field (at least theoretically) the talent within the system just is not there yet. Besides, let's face facts here, no matter how
As the title of this blog entry indicates, I intend this to be the last entry. For reasons I won’t go into now I have basically curtailed my participation in this site and on this blog. That’s OK. My life is moving in new directions and the changes are exciting, and as I move on to new things it is only natural that some of my earlier passions diminish and fall by the side. I have been feeling, though, that one last blog entry was appropriate, even necessary, if only for the sake of giving mysel
On Saturday, Tait went 2-for-4 with a walk and his 17th double. The 19-year-old is hitting .219 with 17 doubles and 15 home runs at High-A Cedar Rapids.
