  1. Is Hildenberger's performance this spring, or should I say lack thereof, making it easier for the Twins to find a spot for Kinley with Hildenberger back in Rochester?
  2. Didn't help his cause today, defensively. Just heard it on the radio, but his throw to second on a 1 foot bunt wasn't good.
  3. Read somewhere this morning, maybe the Strib, that Rosario would be playing outfield in a minor league game sometime this weekend. Indicated that they would have him throwing everything to the infielder so not to stress the arm.
  4. If you are referring to me, I was talking about several years ago...when the AA team was in New Britain. If not, please disregard this response.
  5. What a difference a couple years make, eh Seth? Wasn't that long ago when the Rochester and New Britain starting rotations had very few good prospects, if any. Looking at this group, they are loaded with each having at least three good to top prospects. Add to that the fact that the starting five at Target Field are now all respectable big league starters puts the Twins in a very nice place. Will be interesting to see how FalVine manages this thru the summer. Haven't looked at who will be Rule 5 eligible in the winter, but expect there should be a couple smart moves at the deadline.
  6. If he has a terrible 2018, he will want to retire. If not, and he wants to return he will.
  7. Start games in Rochester through late July. Then shift to the bullpen for a few weeks before brining him up in early August. That will get him innings so he can contend as a starter in ST, 2019. Will also get him experience in the bigs AND help the Twins go on a nice playoff run in 2018.
  8. Let's get all this behind us. Then let him put up a great first half or year. Then in either July or next winter, let him be the center of a major trade to bring back that true ACE. Way too many questions surround Sano that he should continue to be the foundation this team is built upon.
  9. As a Dozier fan long before most, I expect we are going to see the beginning of his decline soon. Maybe not this year, but likely next or the year after. So it doesn't make sense for the Twins to get into a big long-term contract. Offer him a qualifying offer. If odd things happen and he accepts, wonderful. If not, take the draft pick and move on with one of several internal prospects. For his sake, hopefully someone comes along with a four year +$75mm offer. There is one other prospect I would add to that list, Luis Arraez.
  10. The 40-man spot is easy, release Sanchez.
  11. Read in today's paper that they just closed the camp. Didn't give a reason why.
  12. How long before Lynn tells his agent to call the Twins back? Their $20mm for two years was a starting point. Expect that his agent could negotiate that up a few million. What kind of position is a starting pitcher in if he misses all/most of spring training? I will be shocked if there isn't movement during the next week. And the 40-man spot is easy if the Twins sign one of these guys...release Sanchez.
  13. The only way I see Aybar on the opening day roster is if Sano is suspended for a lot longer than 10 days AND they want two utility players. Otherwise, Adrianza clearly is a better option as #2 utility player. Expect to see Busenitz start the year in Rochester along with Curtiss, Reed and Moya. Also think that Kinley will begin the season there after the Twins trade Vargas to the Marlins for him (does Kinley have to clear waivers prior to doing a trade?). Not certain where Duffey fits in all this. Does he have options? Still see Hughes as the #4 starter on opening day, sliding to #5 when Erv is back. That puts Mejia into the Rochester rotation with Slegers, Gonsalves and Romero. Gonna be one fine pitching staff for the Red Wings this spring. Assuming Sanchez is released and Vargas is traded, that opens two 40-man spots. Could they shock the you know what out of us and sign a starter sometime during the next week or two? Is one of those big three about ready to accept a short-term deal? After all, ten million bucks beats the hell out of sitting on the couch and watching games next month. At least it would to me.
  14. Thanks for the update, Seth, It is appreciated. And you have a good day!
  15. Thanks Nick. Some time this November, I see Mauer going out to dinner with his agent, Molitor, Falvey, Levine, St. Peter and maybe even Mr. Pohlad. The conversation will start with Joe telling everyone how he feels and what he would like to do in 2019. Assuming he has a good 2018 and he feels good, he will let them know he'd like to play ball for another year. His agent and Levine, who are sitting next to each other will each toss out a number. Someone will say, how bout splitting the difference. All sides will agree and Joe will sign on for another year at a salary of $10mm +/- a million or two. Fast forward to November, 2019, and there will be the same dinner. Results and discussion may be different, but all will order a nice big steak at the Capitol Grille that will be paid for by Mr. Pohlad!
  16. Should be interesting. Is Dozier our best option at second base in 2019? Probably. Is Dozier the best option at second for the Twins in 2020? Maybe, maybe not. Is Dozier the best option at second for the Twins in 2021, most likely not. Expect the Twins will have a cordial conversation with Dozier and his agent at the end of the year. Dozier will likely test the waters before making his decision. Should the market dictate that a two or three year deal with the Twins at prices less than he would have liked make sense, he could return. I know I like him in a Twins uniform and would like seeing him at Target Field for a few more years.
  17. My thoughts exactly, John. That being that the Twins went thru this for experience. What I found interesting in your article was the comment about the league's role. When was it that the Commissioner was a neutral party in the game. He had a role as the arbitrator between the two sides, acting in the best interest of the game. I think it was that way a long time ago. Do you know when it changed?
  18. Great stuff on Polanco, who is very likeable as a person and player. Also not a bad hitter for someone who was signed as a defensive specialist. How things can change when dealing with 16 year old kids.
  19. I still can't believe we got this guy for Jermaine Palacios. And I was a huge fan of Palacios. We do have Odorizzi for two years, John?
  20. Me thinks your Misc players getting 5 dingers is low, twinssporto. Expect Garver will get that many or more himself. But more by Garver could reduce the number from Castro. If you are setting 232 as the bar for an over/under, I will take the under! My reason is that I suspect we will get only about 12-15 from Sano. Expect there will be a short suspension sometime early in the season, then he will be gone at the trading deadline as part of a whopper trade. We will get a frontline pitcher and a couple top prospects in return for Sano, Gibson and/or Mejia (or another good prospect).
  21. I expect Kennys is gone. Only question remaining is how and when. Unfortunately, he never got consistent playing time to confirm that he is a good hitter. David Ortiz, unlikely. But I expect we are going to see him playing elsewhere and doing well. My question is will he hit better than Morrison in 2018? Will see come September, but possible. Fortunately, Rooker is only a year or so away and will likely mean we won't miss Kennys. Unfortunately, the Morrison signing probably kills getting anything of significance in return.
  22. Everyone has an insurance policy on their car and home, a policy from company X (no, this isn't a State Farm advertisement). It is possible company X has re-insured their losses to some extent with company Y. I look at Aybar as being the Twins re-insurance policy. Should Sano begin the year suspended or on the DL because his leg still isn't 100%, Escobar will be starting at third. Their insurance, should that happen, is to have Adrianza as their utility player and Gordon available at AAA. Should something also happen to Adrianza, or Gordon prove this spring that he isn't ready for the show, they signed Aybar to a minor league deal. Kind of like re-insurance, something you have but never expect to use!
  23. It will be exciting watching Dozier play in Minnesota thru at least July. If he is here all year...great. If he is here for the next three or four years as well, fantastic. Just don't want to break the bank to keep him here. Would rather do that for a Buxton long-term extension. Last winter the FO stated that they wouldn't be doing any extensions until spring training. Well, that time is here. Would be great to see them do something about Buxton, Rosario and yes, Dozier too.
  24. Change Hughes from pencil to ink, Seth. Will be interesting to see how they deal with Vargas. Will they get much of anything in return if/when traded? And who will be the better hitter in 2018, Morrison or Vargas? Results come September could surprise us.
