  1. Interesting how there is no long man in the bullpen. Understand that Hughes is penciled in to come off the DL and start on April 11. If he isn't ready, is Duffey the likely choice to come up? So they have delayed their decision of what to do with one of Moya, Kinley or someone else for two weeks. Even if they have an injury, still have that decision to get the 5th starter/long man onto the roster.
  2. I have this feeling that Lance Lynn is going to be a pleasant surprise, for some. Will go so far as make two predictions. One, he will have a better season than that Darvish guy; and two, he will like it here and they will shock everyone this July when the Twins extend him with a contract similar to what he was looking for this past winter. I have always wanted to be a big fan of Gibson. But days like yesterday sure make it hard, don't they? Hopefully, he will be the pitcher he was the last couple months of last year. If not, your analysis is right on as they will have several options to go before the calendar turns to summer. Will this be the year that Berrios becomes a true ACE? I think so!
  3. Ryan LaMarre's role shouldn't be making the team as their 5th outfielder. If he can hit as well as Grossman, with a bit more power, and run and field similar to Granite, shouldn't he be their 4th outfielder? Send Granite down to play every day. Then at some point between now and next winter, decide between Grossman and Granite who you want in the organization next year.
  4. If they didn't plan on keeping him on the opening day roster, I don't understand why they didn't let him go thru waivers and then try to sign him to a minor league contract. Will see what they do in the next 48 hours or so.
  5. Still believe there is a chance both Moya and Kinley make the team. In that case. Taylor Rogers could be on his way to Rochester. As for Granite needing to play every day, not certain. He may be close to what he will ever be...and that is a fourth or fifth outfielder. Maybe LaMarre should have the spot, or maybe someone else who isn't yet in the organization.
  6. I have been thinking there may be a third man in the mix for the last two spots, Taylor Rogers. Although he was somewhat better today, he wasn't as sharp as Moya. Should Moya pitch an inning or two of lights out ball tomorrow, they just might decide to keep him as their second leftie and send Rogers down.
  7. Thanks. The most recent CBA was signed after 2015, right? Would expect that these minimums may have gone up some in that agreement...or maybe not. In any case, this is an area that seems likely to me that teams/union could improve some of these kids salaries. As we know, the 40-man roster guys are the first replacements most teams have. Seems to me they are worth a lot more than $41,400. Hell, 20% of the league minimum would be over $100k!
  8. I doubt the Twins would claim Vargas, if waived. That would require them to place him on the 40-man, which is the reason they lost him. As much as I really like him and think he can/will be a solid hitter, if ever given consistent at bats, I think the Twins interest would be only if he cleared waivers and they could sign him to a minor league contract. Should that happen, I think their interest level would be very high. On a related note, does anyone know if there are minimum salary levels in the minors for players on the 40-man roster?
  9. With Polanco out, Adrianza's ability to be a backup outfielder is nil. Thus, they may want the fifth outfielder...Granite. Is it possible that they go north with 13 pitchers? That would mean they can keep all of the above. Is it also possible the left handed pitcher who will be sent down isn't Moya, rather, Rogers. He has been terrible this spring, although none of us know if he has been working on stuff which may have affected his results. Can't believe that even with Polanco and Santana out, this team still looks sooo much better than any opening day team in a long, long time.
  10. I think what we are hearing is that Aybar will be on this team, filling the 40-man spot that opened when Polanco was suspended. Is that spot now open? Or doesn't it open until the season starts?
  11. Great article, Seth. Thanks! Should be an important summer for him. Will be interesting to see if he can make up for lost time and earn a promotion to Fort Myers late in the year. And yes, Cedar Rapids should again battle for a championship. Add me to those who don't understand why so many have Rosario out of here in a year or two. I look for him to be an important piece of Twins teams well into the future.
  12. Thanks, Seth. I don't know of another player in the entire organization I am more excited about following this year. Well, maybe Thorpe. But I really will be surprised if we don't see Rooker with the Twins by September at the latest.
  13. I will go with his explanation that he wasn't aware that the prohibited drug was in what he was given by his trainer. But this points to a problem the Twins, and all of baseball, is having with players from the D.R. Perhaps the Twins should become more pro-active. Do they have a trainer at their academy in the D.R? I would assume so. If that is the case, perhaps they should suggest to all of their players (Twins and minor leagues) that they work with that trainer only when home in the winter. Can't force them to do it, but perhaps many/most would. Also recommend that they take nothing that hasn't been given them by that trainer, or at least reviewed by said trainer.
  14. The Adrianza I see on the field is not as bad at the plate as you seem to suggest. Give him the job with Escobar filing in a couple times a week...unless he is starting at third.
  15. WOW, what a shock! But in his defense, almost all players have trainers they work with over the winter. Those who live in the D.R. have local trainers. If you have someone like that, you trust them. Was it an error by the trainer or intentional, we will never know. Problem is easily solved, IMO. Move Adrianza into the starting shortstop role with Escobar as the backup, who can also play third base if/when Sano is sidelined for a suspension or injury. If Sano is out for just a short time, you only need another infielder short term. Could start the clock with Gordon or go with one of the other guys who have been in camp (would need to be added to the 40-man). Who knows, Adrianza just may take the opportunity and never look back. And as Carole hinted at above, maybe he did know this could be coming and that was on his mind while playing in the field this spring.
  16. Is Hildenberger's performance this spring, or should I say lack thereof, making it easier for the Twins to find a spot for Kinley with Hildenberger back in Rochester?
  17. Didn't help his cause today, defensively. Just heard it on the radio, but his throw to second on a 1 foot bunt wasn't good.
  18. Read somewhere this morning, maybe the Strib, that Rosario would be playing outfield in a minor league game sometime this weekend. Indicated that they would have him throwing everything to the infielder so not to stress the arm.
  19. If you are referring to me, I was talking about several years ago...when the AA team was in New Britain. If not, please disregard this response.
  20. What a difference a couple years make, eh Seth? Wasn't that long ago when the Rochester and New Britain starting rotations had very few good prospects, if any. Looking at this group, they are loaded with each having at least three good to top prospects. Add to that the fact that the starting five at Target Field are now all respectable big league starters puts the Twins in a very nice place. Will be interesting to see how FalVine manages this thru the summer. Haven't looked at who will be Rule 5 eligible in the winter, but expect there should be a couple smart moves at the deadline.
  21. If he has a terrible 2018, he will want to retire. If not, and he wants to return he will.
  22. Start games in Rochester through late July. Then shift to the bullpen for a few weeks before brining him up in early August. That will get him innings so he can contend as a starter in ST, 2019. Will also get him experience in the bigs AND help the Twins go on a nice playoff run in 2018.
  23. Let's get all this behind us. Then let him put up a great first half or year. Then in either July or next winter, let him be the center of a major trade to bring back that true ACE. Way too many questions surround Sano that he should continue to be the foundation this team is built upon.
  24. As a Dozier fan long before most, I expect we are going to see the beginning of his decline soon. Maybe not this year, but likely next or the year after. So it doesn't make sense for the Twins to get into a big long-term contract. Offer him a qualifying offer. If odd things happen and he accepts, wonderful. If not, take the draft pick and move on with one of several internal prospects. For his sake, hopefully someone comes along with a four year +$75mm offer. There is one other prospect I would add to that list, Luis Arraez.
