What did Seth say the other day about never having seen this many runs or something like that? Well, that's no longer current. What is it, 49 runs in 4 games for Elizabethton? And let me second your comments, dbminn, about Rortvedt. The kid moves up a level and hits better than in the MWL, although still a small sample. And isn't the FSL supposed to be a pitchers league with the bigger ballparks and heavy air? See what happens when Arraez goes hitless like a couple days ago. He makes up for it with a 5 hit night...and they all weren't singles.

Article: Let's Talk About Eduardo Escobar
rdehring replied to Parker Hageman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
He is also one of the most likeable guys on the team, who I understand is great in the clubhouse. Now what they really need...is his signature on a three year extension. Let's get it done Front Office...now! -
Next year? I look at Thorpe and Graterol as our best candidates for future rotations right now. Drooling at the thought of a rotation with Berrios, Romero, Thorpe, Graterol and whomever! Hopefully, that is in place by opening day 2020.

Biloxi won the Southern Division first half with a 41-29 record. Don't know anything else about them, but that would suggest they are good.

Cannot be happier for Thorpe, who recently had three shutout outings before his clunker a couple starts ago. Seems he is settling in at this level and his stuff is rising to the top. And to see him do it against one of the best teams in the league makes it even better. But the best news of the night might be that Rortvedt continues hitting well at Fort Myers. The Twins need catching badly. Can this young man be the answer? And if so, how soon? Almost couldn't believe your comment about Granite getting his first RBI of the year. So I checked. I know he missed some time, but the season is half over and it was his first RBI of the year! While doing that, saw the averages for both Gordon and Wade. Neither has all that many at bats at AAA, but both appear to need some work before moving on to the big stage.

Looks like this Elizabethton team is going to be interesting to follow. Certainly looks like they are going to score a lot of runs. Of note are this year's second and fourth round picks, Jeffers and Keirsey. Also like what I see from Severino in his first action.

Article: MIN 6, BOS 2: Bats Get to Boston Bullpen
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Extend Escobar, now. And I thought Berrios was getting squeezed by the ump in the early innings. Don't recall the inning, but saw three pitches to back-to-back hitters that were almost entirely inside the FSN Box, just touching the line. All were called balls. About the same time Sale threw several pitches that were nearly entirely outside the box, just touching it, that were called strikes. Late in the game, I didn't see Berrios getting squeezed.- 56 replies

Nine RBI, WOW! He will turn 21 next month, so he isn't a young prospect moving up from the DSL. Will be interesting to see what his performance looks like a month from now. See that Rortvedt continues hitting well at Hi-A, although it's still not that many at bats. Although a 2 hit game is kind of an off day for Arraez, he continues his torrid pace. My question for you and everyone is who is a good comparison for him? I keep thinking Altuve, as both are small second basemen from Venezuela who hit for a high average. But Altuve has more power and is quicker. Any other good ideas?

Article: 2018 GCL Twins Roster Preview
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We haven't heard much about the Twins signing lots of big International Free Agents the past couple years. Yet, I count 19 of the 33 listed above coming from either the D.R. or Venezuela. Maybe they haven't gone after a lot of big names, but they sure were busy. What would be interesting is knowing how much most of these guys were signed for. Did they sign lots of guys for $50-$200k, rather than one for $4mm? I can't remember the exact number, but I think someone mentioned that Romero was signed in that range. There are more ways to develop talent than just chasing the few big money/big name prospects.- 9 replies

Article: 2018 Elizabethton Twins Roster Preview
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Little bit of a different roster this year. Not a lot of top prospects, big names like Rosario-Sano, Romero-Graterol, etc. Doesn't mean they won't be very good and come Labor Day several of these names are very familiar to all of us. Is going to be interesting to see how all the catchers get games behind the plate. Gotta believe that one will be off to Iowa very soon.- 10 replies

Although a small sample size, Wade is facing another wall he must climb. This Pearson kid looks to be a decent pick up over the winter. And Balazovic is reminding us that he is very young. Still really like the kid.

After a slow week with the bat, was good seeing Rooker with a multi-hit game. And how about Grz? He went from signing out of Independent ball to the FSL all-star game in less than eleven months.

Article: MIN 9, CLE 3: That’s Our Eddie
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
E-D-D-I-E! And I agree with all who believe we also need to extend Escobar and Berrios. Isn't today's game huge? Win it and we are 3 games out vs. 5. That could be the spark that ignites the team for a run like last year. I am of the opinion that Romero is very talented with a wonderful future. With his stuff, he could turn into a true ACE. But he is also very young and inexperienced. For that reason, I expect when/if Santana gets back in the next 30 days, Romero will be sent back to Rochester. Start him every 6th game to limit his innings, or even move him to the bullpen in late August. Then bring him back in September for spot action or limited bullpen duty during the playoff chase. Obviously, if Santana doesn't return or they trade someone in July, he would need to remain with the Twins.- 33 replies

No need to get concerned about the Motter call up. He can play almost anywhere on the field and is merely keeping a bench spot warm until Polanco returns in a couple weeks. Was trying to figure out what is going on in Fort Myers. They have 7 (actually 8) all-stars and are in last place. Then I too saw that Diaz is an all-star with a sub .600 OPS. The FSL All-star team must be chosen by the voters and Miracle fans were motivated. The player who jumped out at me this morning was Jose Miranda. While dealing with the cold for the first time in his life, he hit only a buck eighty in April. But he has been a hitting machine ever since. And he won't turn 20 until the end of this month. He probably has moved into the top spot of future third base prospects for the Twins. Will he replace Diaz as the #13 prospect in TD mid-season rankings? Or should he be even higher?

Article: MIN 6, CLE 3: Anything is Possible
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Now that was an enjoyable game to watch. Add Gibson to the list of players who will need an extension this winter, along with Rosario and Berrios. Gibson, Romero and Berrios can form the nucleus of a playoff caliber rotation. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see them extend Lynn as the veteran part of that group. The other player that needs to be extended, this summer, is the Mighty Mouse. All the other young guys can wait another year...or longer.- 35 replies

Article: Twins Prospect Pulse: Monitoring the Minors
rdehring replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Holy Cow, Arraez has a strikeout rate that's lower than Wade the last 28 days! And that Kirilloff guy isn't all that much higher, or Miranda. Maybe the Twins are developing a few guys who won't strike out as much as a few of their current young guys. And thanks for this report, I like it!- 24 replies

Article: Get To Know Twins C/1B Prospect Ben Rodriguez
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great interview, Seth. And what a fine young man. Expect he is going to have a good life, whether in baseball or doing something else. And let's hope that there is some time in a Twins uniform before doing whatever else he will do with the rest of his life. -
Checked the scores when Chattanooga was in the third inning. Saw Thorpe was pitching, so I followed the game the rest of the way. Thorpe was nearly perfect through 5 shutout innings with 2 hits and 8 strikeouts on only 63 pitches. An infield single followed by a double led to a run in the sixth inning. The seventh inning was similar to some of his previous outings. It began with an error on the third baseman before getting out of hand, thus, only 2 of his 4 runs were earned. As he works back to the top of our pitching prospects, we continue to see him dominate early before tiring late in games. Yet, other than his last start, many of his problems late in games have been accompanied by one or more defensive errors. Yes, he needs to be able to pitch around problems, but at 22 he is still young (for AA) and missed two full years of development. This was probably his best start of the year and I am excited to see him getting closer to the prospect I have been excited about since following him all those years ago when he was a 17 year old dominating the Australian Winter League.

Just plain ugly finish. I count three games of the last 8 or 10 we could have, should have won. Come September, three games will count. And what a job by Berrios, who wasn't at his best. I found the comments about Pedro interesting as I have been talking about that comparison for a couple years.

Article: Twins Daily Roundtable: Romero's Innings
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Excellent, and you seem to have a consensus that there should be some limitation. No matter how you decided the innings/pitches question, it is likely he should be shut down at some point later in the season. Considering that Romero is one of their best four pitchers, the bigger question is what to do if the Twins are in the hunt for the playoffs? How do they get him available come October?- 44 replies

If this Rupp guy can hit a little AND play good defense, expect we will see him with the Twins in a couple weeks. Question will be who gets sent down. If it were me, it would be Garver. Maybe some of you stat guys can confirm what my eyes are telling me that his defense isn't very good...especially blocking balls in the dirt. And after getting all excited about Rooker the last month, he has gotten only 2 hits in the last five games. I guess a slump should have been expected, hopefully it will be a short one. I like the progress Baddoo is making, especially being on track for about 15 home runs. Although no longer a prospect, what does Rinn have to do to get a little recognition around here? And I loved the 'inquiring minds' aspect of today's report.

Article: Twins Sign Belisle: What Does This Mean?
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is management telling us that their opinion of all those guys at AAA isn't as high as ours? Do they believe that none of them will ever be late inning relievers? To win, this year or in the near future, the Twins will need a top shelf closer and a couple of shut down late inning guys. They aren't on this team today. Do any of these guys at AAA have that potential? I would hope so, but really have no way of knowing. Unfortunately, without them having a chance on the big stage...will the Twins ever know?- 82 replies
