Misunderstood what you were getting at when reading your headline, Cody. Thought you would be talking about who the Twins core is. Or should be? I don't see any of this group as part of their core. Lewis might be, but they need him to play like he should most of next year for that to be a fact. The problem then will be his approaching free agency and likely out the door should he be who he should be. So no, he probably isn't part of their core either. So that means none of these are part of their core to build around. At least in my opinion. Expect some or most of your #1-#5 will be.

It isn't clear who will be coaching the catchers and infield. Will Rabelo work with the catchers? Infield is who? I am most excited about Hawkins. Was big fan while he was pitching for the Twins and enjoyed his perspective while on the tv broadcasts these past few years. Have to believe a couple of their young arms are going to be in the pen next year. Will be interesting seeing who and how they do. Remember Sizemore from his days with the Indians. Kept thinking of Baldelli while reading about his injury prone career and early retirement. Didn't see who the third base coach is going to be? Love Watkins, but he ran the Twins into way too many outs at home. Overall seems to be a competent group who should be fine.

Do I agree that this quartet is headed for regression? Buxton? Maybe a few years from now but not 2026, assuming he stays relatively healthy. Ryan? May not matter if he is pitching for Boston or someone else who overpaid for his services. Clemons? Who cares? His role with the Twins should be as a backup first baseman or DH, getting a max of 200+/- at bats. Woods Richardson? No. It seems this kid doesn't have what it takes to be a solid member of any team's starting rotation. Yet, he continues to get solid results for the past two years. He is who he is, which ain't all that bad. Expect him to be their #4 or #5 starter until replaced by one of the young guns on the verge of making it. He should then be a valuable trade piece to return another very good prospect, perhaps as early as July, 2026. What is more important is how much others improve from their disappointing 2025. Young guys like Lewis, Lee, Sands, Bradley, Matthews, Festa, and Able. Add Martin and Keaschall who were very good in 2025 but can get better and 2026 just might surprise us. Or not!

Don't understand why so many of you see little to no value in Roden? Granted, he is a Wisconsin kid from Middleton where I once lived. So, I have a bias. I admit it. But just look at what he did in the minors the past couple years. Had he been in the Twins organization, many of you would be screaming that he be brought up and played, immediately. As for his brief experience for the Jays and Twins. It was what, 100 at bats? And in the middle of that the kid gets traded. I don't see how that brief experience should tarnish what he accomplished prior to breaking in with the Jays. I understand that he was traded for a local kid we all loved. I get that. But that is water over the dam. It is time to move on and give this kid a chance. The same chance Jenkins, EmRod and Gonzalez will soon be getting.

Great article, Cody. And timely! When thinking about who they have, I have gone from expecting them to trade one of Larnach/Wallner to hoping they trade both. Some combination of Jenkins, EmRod and Gonzalez should be their corner outfielders by July. And it is a strong likelihood that they are a huge improvement. They should be fine with Martin and Roden as their starters on opening day and both should be fine DH/fourth/fifth outfielders moving forward. I don't have much hope for Outman, but he works as a fourth guy until the kids arrive. Have been dreaming that I see a Larnach trade any day now. Larnach and a solid pitching prospect, say a AA guy, for a young reliever with a couple years big league experience and three or four-years control. Someone like Louie Varland light who can be one of their 7th or 8th inning guys. They then use the $4M savings from Larnach towards signing a good free agent reliever. Yes, I know $4-5M won't get the top guys but should get someone dependable. Wallner probably has more upside than Larnach, thus, should bring back a better player. Preferably a young first baseman or catcher to alternate with Clemons/Jeffers. Maybe they have to add a prospect to get a better young player who can be part of their future, rather than a one-year fill-in. I know a lot of Twins fans will scream and holler should they trade Wallner. But personally, I am tired of watching him misplay the ball in right field while hitting solo home runs in games that were decided innings earlier. He's a Minnesota kid, so wish him well with another team and move on.

That really is an excellent group, Cody. With the Twins biggest need being bats, defense and speed, four of this group could/will determine whether or not the Twins can compete beginning as early as next year. And what is even better is that two are a catcher and shortstop, filling the most important slots up the middle. Should all four of these bats become perennial all-stars, all will be good. We can dream, can't we?😄

Gotta disagree a bit with your lead. If the Twins are going to be competitive next year they are going to need good health from Buxton, Lewis and their trio of starting pitchers. They will also need a couple of their top young guys who struggled in 2025 to take that next step. Guys like Lee, Martin, Matthews and Festa, although Martin was awfully good when he got healthy. Maybe their new Manager will be joined by a coaching staff that can make that happen. But yes, should one or two of the above shine in their rookie seasons the Twins just might be in the hunt. That assumes that the front office doesn't trade away most of their veterans. Considering how good both Jenkins and ERod are defensively, am hopeful that both can finally stay healthy and give the Twins their corner outfielders for the next six plus years.

Not a clue what the Twins will do this winter, although this guy looks like a good fit. With or without Jeffers. Expect, or at least hope, the Twins will be open for business this off-season. Expect any deal for Jeffers will depend on what someone is offering. Since it is unlikely they will be competitive in 2026 and they have several strong catching prospects a couple years away, hopefully someone blows them away with an offer for Jeffers.

Looking at Boadas previous stats, he was nothing special prior to the AFL. Great seeing him have the opportunity after missing all of 2025. Next year is going to be important as he will need to be added to the 40-man or he will become a free agent. That's right, isn't it?

Great article and tool, Brock. Thanks. I won't be using this as I don't have a clue what the Twins will be doing. I remain hopeful, they do.😃 But I will be checking this every few days to see what, if any changes appear. Hopefully your guess of $110M isn't too high, although I expect it may be. Thanks again.

Great read, Seth. Thanks! Have three comments, err, questions. Also, an observation. First, is really a question. Where will the Twins be drafting in this year's Rule 5 draft? Expect it will be very high, thus, they will likely want to leave at least one 40-man spot open to find that next Santana or Smith. Second, with Gonzalez being a lock and EmRod/Jenkins either on the 40-man or a likely 2026 add, they don't have a need to add any more corner outfielders. Thus, the likelihood of Fedko or Rosario being added goes down. I like both of those guys, a lot. Is it likely they could be part of a trade prior to the draft? As unlikely as that is. Finally, the Twins have a couple promising starters, Festa and Matthews, who have been around for a couple years. Add the big group brought in last July and you have a large group of good starting prospects. Yet, I see the three you call 'locks' having higher upside than any of the above. At least Prielipp and Rojas do, in my opinion. I guess my question is what do the Twins do with more starters than needed? And how/when do they do it? And that leads to an observation. The Front Office needs to decide what their plan is for the off-season and how they plan to compete in 2026? And that's assuming they do plan to compete. For example, this more than needed group of young starters goes away should they decide to trade Ryan, and/or Lopez. Considering there are what you call six locks to be added, I don't see their decisions when adding those will tell us anything about their plans for the winter. [Edit. On this Veteran's Day, wanted to add a thank you to all of us who served America at some time in our lives.]

Remain hopeful that the Twins will pick up a young first base prospect who will be ready come spring. Doubt they will get that for Larnach, who I hope is traded for a reliever. But a catcher or first baseman who is both very good and almost ready must be included in a Ryan trade.

Add me to those above who say no way to the proposals you suggest. First, the Twins could and maybe should keep Ryan. That would give them a trio of excellent pitchers to head their rotation. You know, three pitchers capable of being competitive in the playoffs. Don't know what the front office is thinking, however, they shouldn't trade Ryan unless they get blown away. And that doesn't mean a couple `18-year old shortstops years away. They must get two of whatever team's top half dozen prospects. And only if those are good prospects with at least one ready to join the club in 2026 and the other at Hi-A or AA. Throw in a solid prospect back in rookie ball and you have something to consider. Should they get such an offer they also should be looking to fill holes on their squad with filling one of first base, catcher and the bullpen a must.

Great read, Cody, as your comments are what I have been thinking the last month. Continue to believe that Prielipp is too valuable to be a reliever. But perhaps he can be that bulk reliever in 2026, pitching two plus to four innings every three or four days. Continue to believe they need to bring in one good free-agent reliever. Also want to believe that Canterino will finally be healthy and an absolute stud working out of their bullpen come late June.

Three Free Agent Fits For The Twins At Catcher
rdehring replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Was wondering about Rortvedt while reading this. Then saw his name in the comments but was surprised he was with the Dodgers. Recall he had a great start last year with Tampa. Must have missed the trade to the Dodgers. Recall he was thought to be very good defensively so he again could be a good backup to Jeffers.- 27 replies

Interesting, thanks Jamie. A lot will depend on where the Twins draft. When is the lottery? Of the opinion that the Twins need a ton of help and soon. So my first thought is that they take a great college player rather than a high school kid. Also doesn't help that I continue to be reminded of their recent high school picks that haven't set the world on fire. You know, Cavaco, that high school pitcher from Texas who was a big time quarterback, that tall California lefty, and others. Remain hopeful that Lewis turns it around this summer before moving on as a free-agent and becoming an all-star for some other team. Should the Twins take a high school kid who is the next Bobby Witt, he could/should be playing by 2028. That could be the same time as a college player should there be no or little baseball in 2027.

Grading the Twins' Hiring of Derek Shelton
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very true, Mahoning. Now should Buxton stay healthy and plays like this year, Lewis remains healthy and becomes the player he could/should be, and Keaschall improves rather than has that sophomore slump, the Yankees may only have the better player at six of the nine spots. That would be an improvement from 2025, a big improvement. -
Grading the Twins' Hiring of Derek Shelton
rdehring replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Have a suggestion, Cody. How about waiting until next November to grade him? You know, give him a year to see how he actually does as Manager? -
Great seeing Amick playing first base. Sure is a position of need for the Twins. Also good seeing Winokur playing about two-thirds of their games. Interesting that it all has been at either short or third. Kid is still so young, should be exciting watching him grow into his body as he matures. Both physically and as a player.

Kyle DeBarge's Glove Proves Golden
rdehring replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
WOW. Didn't have a clue he was this good defensively. Knew about the speed, but not the glove. Should he hit last year's numbers for the Twins with 50+/- steals and gold glove level D at second base and you have a player who would be in my lineup. Every day. -
Thanks, Nick. None of know what the future holds for the Twins. I remain hopeful that the front office will make a couple smart moves this winter, albeit likely without spending a lot of money. Add improvement from the current batch of young players together with the arrival of a couple top prospects and we just might have an enjoyable summer. Hopefully, Mr. Shelton will be a manager who will stress good defense together with being aggressive along with a little fight from the guys. Should that happen, I will enjoy 2026 and beyond.

Very detailed analysis, Matt. But is it possible the main part of his problem was his hip injury? Gotta wonder what he would have been like in September had the Twins shut him down when he first began having problems. Wasn't it in May that he began dealing with his hip problem? Yet, no mention of the injury until I began reading the comments above. I remain hopeful that Ober is the pitcher he was prior to last May and that pitcher will return in 2026.
