  1. And to add to this^^^ For all the criticism the Twins management gets they were dialed in on how to use Rogers. That adept usage maximized Taylor's value.
  2. Twins Daily, dispelling myths, one myth at a time.
  3. If a guy, like Ober, is expected to be the next man up in the rotation, then he needs to be in St Paul working as a starter. Jacking these guys around like they did to Dobber a couple of year ago doesn't work. Now late in the year is a good time to work young starters into the pen for the stretch run. They can go back to being starters the next year.
  4. Don't forget Mahle was added last year as well. This team could be a lot better.
  5. I agree Mr Mod! People seem to sleep on Larnach, but the guy has a nice bat. He's pretty good in the outfield too. Gallo however is top notch and keeping him there would be best.
  6. After all this discussion of aces and innings pitched there is not one mention of how teams have their starters throw harder and with more effort than in the past. The days of starting pitchers pacing themselves for a deep run into the game are over. Players weren't tougher or more determined in the past. The expectations of how to go about their jobs is what has changed. Sure in any era you can find exceptions, but I venture this is the number one reason why pitchers don't go as long. The Twins and Rocco aren't doing anything the rest of the league isn't doing.
  7. For a couple of reasons they should keep Ober on the starter's path. He has been successful when healthy. He has improved in-season and improved against teams when facing them again. He seems to have the pitch mix to not struggle putting guys away to be versatile in his attack plans. His injuries haven't been shoulder or elbow related, correct?
  8. I want to add something not mentioned. He was interviewed shortly after becoming a reliever on how it suited him. Paraphrasing here, he said he liked the role and adrenaline. He said he also liked feeling good instead of walking around sore all the time like he was as a starter. I know I read this somewhere, I did not make it up. It seems like a pretty important factor, so I'm surprised I've never seen it mentioned again. I'm sure Duran's agent has hammered at him how much more he could make starting.
  9. I'd probably leave him in the fireman role. Closer, wait do they still use that term? Lol. Heart of the order, high leverage is where it's at today, son. It is tempting to think of him as a starter, but when he was he pitched short outings. I'm not sure he be the same impact player as a starter.
  10. My two cents is to ditch any security or protection software. All it does is slow down your computer. Run completely unprotected, allow cookies, only go to reputable sites and dump your cookies often. That's worked for me since I briefly tried McCaffey back in '98, lol. There is nothing to fear.
  11. Miranda has been working his ass off and will get his shot at 3rd. We don't know how good he will be yet.
  12. Good article and I agree with everything except Cele being the big loser in the Taylor trade. This is the best thing that could happen to him. He needs missed developmental time. The best medicine for his mental errors is a minor league paycheck.
  13. Berrios pitched more innings per start under Rocco than he did during the same season under the Jay's manager. The Jays were fighting for a playoff spot and didn't ride Jose as hard as Rocco did early in a season. This narrative surrounding Rocco is not only incredibly stale it is incorrect. From what I've seen if Rocco has the horses, he will ride them. Archer and Bundy? C'mon now. There is another narrative that Sonny Gray wants out. This is based on what? Gray was mad when pulled from a game, as any competitive pitcher should be, and said he wanted to go deeper in games. What happened? The next game Rocco left him in and he got shelled. Gray said, "I need to be better". Somehow that translates into Gray wants out. Personally I don't get it. Maybe the PR department needs to "catch" Rocco on camera swilling a Bud Lite in the dugout lol.
  14. Let's consider the curve ball as well. I read, probably on this site, that he has a good one but just doesn't use it much. Top pitchers need a3rd pitch, eh? I'd like to hear more about that pitch. We've all heard about his poor second half. If it is due to an injury not just fatigue that could be good for his future presuming he's healed up.
  15. Kelly and Gardy were two geeks who couldn't play ball. Couldn't even make the bigs as banjo hitting utility men "who played the right way". Rocco was the captain of the football team, prom king, superstar center fielder and 6th pick overall in the MLB draft. He could play ball and did rising quickly and finishing 3rd in rookie of the year. He also lead the American League in outfield assists, a great fielder too. He got unlucky with a rare medical condition, but his love for the game kept him in it as he again rose quickly to become the youngest manager in the league his first year. Kelly and Gardy had some good runs. Kelly caught lightning in a bottle. We also endured some very lean years with these two. I like Rocco and think when we look back on him it will be with the same reverence as Kelly and Gardy. All the negative voices of the present will fade to the background as these voices always do when their predictions of doom don't materialize. Quietly fade into the background amidst the celebrations, lying in wait for the next slip up to pounce and warn others of the new impending doom. 🤣
  16. Well, growing up in the western Minneapolis suburbs via an early childhood in the western Chicago suburbs, we rode down 94 countless times. Yes Tomah was considered the halfway point, but a mear eleven miles down the road? Target Bluff German Haus I'm guessing Mr Prielipp got that slider spin from the sauerbraten.
  17. Celestino needs to spend beaucoup time in the minors for his only chance of regaining any luster. Ober if healthy is a starter, a good one. Winder hasn't shown the durability or ability and may end up in the pen. Kirilloff if healthy is a complete hitter and potential prime 1st baseman. Not bad in left either. Larnach if healthy has power to all fields, is good in the outfield, could be a nice #5 hitter corner outfielder. They gotta step up, this is their big chance.
  18. Excellent comment VP and exactly what keeps me coming back to TD in spite of the bushwhacking necessary to behold such meadows of insight. 🙂
  19. Louie seems to be dinged up by the end of every season.
  20. I'll miss Luis no doubt. Super charismatic. He has his flaws and the Twins sold high. As a long time Twins fan I have never seen pitching depth like this. I'm excited for an owner who actually likes baseball, Joe, but the big questions here are health and do many of these players have great years?
  21. Do we really know for certain that the Mets didn't seek additional medical opinions? I guess Cohen could have been scrambling after a rash decision
  22. I agree I would like to extend either Mahle or Gray. With Mahle the shoulder is a concern. You may want to wait to offer him a deal, but then again a deal now fits this FO's MO with them looking for that discount.
