  1. Rooker is no gazelle in the OF, but he can't be worse than eddie was last year with the bad wheels. If the Twins do bring Rooker up and he gets his confidence going, you're gonna see some balls fly.
  2. I guess watching about 15 minutes of Kirby Puckett highlights payed off.
  3. Also, everybody watch a clip of Kirby Puckett highlights and see if we can stir some positive mojo.
  4. That's it! We need the MVP in the booth.
  5. Time for some butt-naked batting practice or something!!
  6. It could be that some hitters just aren't feeling comfortable in the batter's box and haven't got their swings to click yet. Whatever it is, it sure made this weekend against the Tigers frustrating.
  7. Observing, understanding and even talking about the finer points of pitching mechanics isn't easy. It's why we have pitching coaches. Great article Matt; you're miles ahead of us pedestrian observers. Thanks for the insight and write-up. Now we can all watch the release point and pitch zone location. Good charts too; I like how the change up falls off the chart.
  8. Hooray for the 2-out 0-2 count base hit by Sano to score 2 runs.
  9. I didn't think Vargas' relay throw from 2B was that bad, Marwin should have caught it. A lot of 4-letter words at my house in the 9th. Kudos to "Meatlocker" in the 10th. When the heck are we gonna pound somebody with a barrage of runs? How used to winning have we become . . . as we pick apart a victory. It was awesome to pick up the win, but then my Black Hawks lost to Las Vegas to get eliminated. It was a late night here on the east coast.
  10. It's the Houston Cheatos. It's why they're orange, and stuff.
  11. Is it just me or do the players look different in the powder blues? Not play different, but actually look different. I thought Kep looked like he came out of a different era of baseball today. It's probably just my aging eyes.
  12. I've always liked Alex Avila, but now that he's a Twin and we get to see him more regularly, I like him even more. Good signing. I'm a huge Mitch Garver fan, but I like winning more. If playing Alex a bit more is good for the team, I'm all for it.
  13. I agree. It was like an electrical charge in the air, ozone high or something. It was very tangible.
  14. Honorable mention: Jim Eisenreich. A 16th round draft pick out of St. Cloud State, he went from hitting .311 with 23 homers in the Single-A Midwest League in '81 to play CF opening day for the Twins in '82. He batted over .300 and played a good CF, but his season was short circuited by undiagnosed Tourette's Syndrome and his difficulties dealing with it in the high pressure Major Leagues. None of us knew what was happening when in early May in Boston Eisenreich walked off the field holding the hand of Gary Ward. The next 2 seasons he played sparingly, then spent 2 years out of professional baseball getting treatment. He came back and had a great career playing 12 more seasons, ending with a .290 average and a World Series ring with the '97 Marlins. I always wished those seasons could gave been spent playing for the Twins.
  15. I like beating the Royals by large amounts. Go Twins.
  16. Agreed, but I like the idea of Garver's bat heating up keeping him in the lineup as much as possible.
  17. Nice article. I think hiding the ball as long as possible is a pitching advantage, giving the hitter less time to track the ball. It seems this front office has the ability to pinpoint certain players in other organizations they feel they can work with should they become available. This sounds simple but not always easy to produce results. Makes it extra fun when they pick up a guy.
  18. A nice straight-up stance with little pre-swing movement. Nice wrist action. If he can keep his swing from getting too long and wait on pitches he could be something special . . . dang.
  19. << To add some fun....saw the idea of removing the screens protecting the cardboard people.....make foul balls a lot more fun........ >> Oh heck yes!!!! This is brilliant. Imagine a foul tip that would usually hit the screen nail one of the cardboard hecklers separating his head from the rest of his fake carcass. Would make this season infinitely more interesting. Priceless.
  20. I find this picture somehow disturbing. At least Sponge Bob looks like he's having a good time.
  21. Let's not forget softballer Aaron Whitefield making his debut as a pinch runner, scoring a run and getting to shag a flyball.
