  1. I think if the talent was equal for all teams, the Rays and Brewers especially would still win more games. Why? Situational hitting. Both the Rays and again especially the Brewers work hard and take pride in their effort and ability to size up the pitches they are seeing, put the bat on the ball, get on base and move runners along. And it doesn't hurt that both teams are very good at managing a pitching staff. The first 2 games of the WS have been excellent to watch; great baseball.
  2. The Henry Davis idea in interesting. Looking at his stats majors vs minors he doesn't even look like the same guy. He was the overall number 1 pick in 2021 and in the minors he hit .290/.407/.529 with 11% caught stealing, and in the majors he's hit .178/.265/.300 with 32% caught stealing. Seems like there should be some offensive upside to his game. Sheltie probably has a pretty good take on whether or not he could help the Twins.
  3. Since 2006 the Rays have had Jim Hickey and now Kyle Snyder, both excellent pitching coaches. If Tampa Bay has held unto Reith this long as their AAA pitching coach I have to believe he could be a real good pick for the Twins, and I'm sure manager Derek Shelton and Assistant GM Josh Kalk agree.
  4. What bothers me more is the half-butted roster clearing attempt last year and hanging on to expiring assets through the trading period this year when you could have followed through with both, retooled, and still look to make the playoffs this season. Jeremy Zoll was a good Division III catcher for Haverford College, lets hope he's a good General Manager for the Twins.
  5. Lewis had a total of 78 minor league games played above A+ before playing regularly in the Twins lineup. The bulk of his minor league stats (A+ and AA) produced a .242/.302/.380 slash line that looks a lot like the last 2 years with the Twins. To me this is who he is. It's the kind of stat line you expect from Ildemaro Vargas who you would have on your team as a utility player, at about half the cost of Lewis.
  6. Royce Lewis putting on the face-brake after reaching first base. First Round draft picks sure do have some skills, eh?
  7. There were a few called strike threes on E-Rod on perfect sinkers that barely caught the strike zone and I thought I wouldn't have swung at those either. I'm sure he'll make the adjustments as he seemed to be seeing the ball ok but didn't swing because he thought the pitches were low.
  8. This is kinda funny but the most similar batter on BBref to Royce Lewis is Matt LeCroy. I'm not sure anyone ever penciled in Matt LeCroy as a starter for any position.
  9. Yeah, Leo would play the starting 8 every game all year and they were pretty tired come September. Heck, poor Randy Hundley from 66-69 averaged 153 games at catcher per season.
  10. Not sure how the Twins played spoiler today since the Astros won leaving the outcome of this game moot.
  11. Sheez . . . Astros OF tonight Jorge Barrosa, Lucas Spence, Cam Smith.
  12. I'd rather see Sabato at 1B than Lewis, probably more competitive too. Screw the Astros anyways.
