  1. I think there was multi-team interest, and Harper is optionable so that gives him more value too. Good breaking stuff, will probably get some innings in the Nats pen this year.
  2. Terry Ryan interviews were always exciting .... cough. I always thought he did a good job with a limited budget, except for the release of David Ortiz.

Nothing like having to face the possibility of seeing a high-hard-one should the opposing team deem your deliveries to be too close for comfort. It's not a feature, its an on-the-job hazard. I'm just saying that a pitcher that has to bat might think twice about deliberately trying to plunk a batter he's facing. It acts as a self-policing feature and helps to keep the beanballing down. It has nothing to do with wanting to watch players get hit by a pitch, which I don't.

  5. I like pitchers having to hit. A good hitting pitcher is an advantage. Watching bad hitting pitchers flail is awesome, and you never know when they might actually get a hit. Having pitchers bat also helps keep the head hunting down as they have to face the opposing pitcher themselves. I also think it also helps pitchers to bat as it gives them a chance to see live pitching first hand and see their stuff and sequences. Instead of the DH i'd add the Free Hitter for both leagues, a free pinch hit at bat during the game where the hitter being pinch hit for gets to stay in the game and the Free Hitter returns to the bench to be used again.
  6. Future Twins reliever: Derek Molina - age 21 RH reliever - Ft. Myers - career 1.075 WHIP, 12.7 K/9
  7. Was hoping Joe Cronin would become a prospect just because his name is Joe Cronin.
  8. I think all the fans that attended Astros home games are also complicit and they should ban all attendance for one year. C'mon, it's a game. Getting away with bending/breaking the rules goes as far back as competition was invented. Maybe each team should have a secured network of communication tech so they can all communicate with each other. This is the 21st century after all.
  9. Wow Seth, nice job. This is like the who's who in the ranks of the Twin's org for 2020. I'm savin' it!
  10. Luke Raley is an interesting prospect and if he starts hitting well in the early spring, there might be no stopping him toward a role with the Twins this year.
  11. I think he is pushing the bidding as high as it will go, then re-sign with Atlanta. It's an opportunity to leverage the salary situation and sign with the team he wants to play for. These days, all things being equal seems less equal for the Twins. I don't know if it's the water or weather or the angle of the sun but building winning sports teams in Minnesota that can win-it-all seems like an impossible venture. '87 and '91 were awesome as a Twins fan, but they were kind of crap shoots. Played well, made the post season and went on a run to win, then back to mediocrity. I don't mind letting the kids play, see what happens, then shore things up later if things go well.
  12. ** IMPACT ALERT ** Arm & Hammer chosen to be the go-to toothpaste in the clubhouse for 2020.
  13. I'm repeating myself here because I mentioned it in another thread, but I think Dominic Smith of the Mets could be a possible trade acquisition. With Alonso entrenched at 1B, Smith is a bat without a position for them. I'm not a trade guru but does Fernando Romero and Nick Gordon get us there, or too much?
  14. Maybe a trade with the Mets for Dominic Smith?
  15. Close. Hill at peak earnings (75 innings): Hill makes $166,667 per inning. Cole (36 mil contract year average, 210 est innings): Cole makes $171,429 per inning. It does seem like a lot of $$ for Hill I agree. If he can pitch as effectively as he has the past few years he could be a huge asset in a post-season run.
  16. From Jeff Passan of ESPN on Rich Hill's contract: If he returns in time to make 15 starts or throw 75 innings, Hil's salary will jump to $12.5 million, a source told Passan. He can earn $1 million for reaching five starts or 25 innings, another $1 million for seven starts or 35 innings, an additional $1 million for nine starts or 45 innings, $1.5 million more for 11 starts or 55 innings, $2 million on top of that for 13 starts or 65 innings and a $3 million bonus for his 15th start or 75th inning. I think the contract hurdles being listed as starts or innings is designed to provide compensation for Hill whether he's used as a starter or reliever.
  17. Maybe we'll find out Homer Bailey is the great grandson of George Bailey and he'll have a wonderful life pitching for the Twins. Very good split-finger fastball which he upped to using almost 27% last year. Held hitters to an .182 average with it and generated a 38.2% whiff rate. Results might have been helped by the fact that a lot of pitchers ditched their sinkers while pursuing upper strike zone whiffs and hitters struggled with his sinker. Jack Morris probably likes this signing. Both fastball and splitter are good pitches, others ... not so good. Used to have an elite slider pre Tommy John then Bone Spur Surgery. Known as a very hard worker. Who knows, maybe with full post-TJ health and Wes Johnson's pitching mojo he'll have a nice season for the Twins.
  18. Swarzak? So, how many "aks" can you have on one team? We got Dobnak & Stashak, we don't need no freakin' Swarzak. Wait, Logan Morrison is still available?
  19. I'm pretty sure the Twins want him to start. Both Graterol and Thorpe will need innings limitations, so maybe they form a starter/relief sharing role with probably about 150 max innings from each of them. That is if they pitch effectively and we don't acquire another starter.
  20. Clippard actually has better stats against LH hitters than RH, and with the new 3-batter rule, I really like this signing.
  21. Any pitcher that has Dick "The Monster" Radatz as one of his comps at B-R is alright in my book.
  22. Tell Fangraphs . . . do not dis the Dobnak.
  23. The Hot Stove sure heated up on this topic. MadBum wanted to pitch in Arizona. He got an offer he liked well enough and chose to pitch where he wanted to be. Maybe this opens up the opportunity a little bit more to obtain Robbie Ray in a trade from the D-Backs. I know they've been working on a possible deal with one of the Marlins' young arms. I though Josh Lindblom might have been a good target. Not a hard thrower but great spin rates; seemed like the type of pitcher the Twins might try to capitalize on but he signed with the Brewers. Hang in there, we've got more off-season to go yet.
  24. Question: Does the Mets signing Wacha and Porcello make DeGrom or Thor remotely available?
  25. Jon Lester is 13-6 vs the Yanks but he's 35 now and still can't throw to 1B.
