  1. Sorry, I wasn't saying it was a bad idea at all, I was just wondering how his numbers compared to other first basemen. Taking age, salary, upside there seems to be many reasons why him or platooning him at first would be an upgrade. For example Mauer is 20th of 27, where would Kepler be?
  2. Not arguing but how do Kepler's numbers play out as a 1B?
  3. Goodrum has K'd 32% of the time and has an OBP .310. His ,448 Slg% is pretty good. Would he even had been on the Twins until Sano got sent down?
  4. Doesn't it really come down to who "you" think is going to be best major league ball player? If somebody thinks that Rooker could/will be an all star first basemen and thinks Kirilloff is going to be a good every day player, then you would say Rooker is the better prospect or vice versa. But IMO if you believe that OF > 1B is the end all to decide between prospects than the Twins made a huge mistake drafting Rooker that high when a OF is greater than 1B. Now I believe Kirilloff is going to have a better major league career than Rooker for multiple reasons but not based on the fact he plays OF vs 1B. Just my two cents, but as my friend's son always says "just give me two cents because it is worth more than your opinion"
  5. IS there a worse year to have a ton a money to spend on free agents? (unless Manny or Bryce are an option) Plus the spots the Twins are the weakest at going into next year. (3B, SS, 2B) the best players available might be the ones they traded away? On top they have nobody at those 3 positions ready,
  6. From my college baseball days. I can tell you when your team has high expectations and the guys playing are sucking the guys not playing start getting pissed they aren't getting a chance. So maybe that has something to do with this years chemistry. For example I am guessing quite a few are friends with Vargas and they see Morrison being terrible and they are thinking Kennys could be doing that for way less money? IDK
  7. Are we really talking or thinking Willians Astudillo has a future on the Twins? In the day and age of OBP the Twins are going to say hey lets give an roster spot to a 26 year old with a career MINOR league OBP of less than .300?
  8. .376,.380,.405 That is the slugging percentage from the Twins 3,4,5 hitters. Any wonder it seems punchless?
  9. He is right about lucky hits, as in it was lucky nobody got hurt in the outfield bleachers and they were only hits.
  10. IMO 2019 comes down to your top two and that is it. If Sano is close to all start level (2017 pre all star break) and Buxton is .80% of the second half of 2017) The rest will take care of it self. I can't see the FO going out and getting 2 startering pitchers or even one. They did that last year with Odorizzi/Lynn and Pineda. You would assume, Berrios, Gibson, Odorizzi, Pineda and Romero will be the projected starting five going into next year.
  11. The 11th worst team in the majors, picking up the contract of a 42 year old (he will be 3/18/19) pitcher that leads the league in blown saves, yea can't see anything going wrong with that. I will add that last night should be the last time Belisle ever pitches for the Twins again with Slegers,Littell,Duffey, Curtiss,Busenitz sitting in AAA.
  12. And the Twins should have a crap ton of minor league guys to go out and get what they need next year.
  13. They could sign Kimbrel, Donaldson, McCutchen and Escobar or Dozier, Not saying they should, but they could. Those probably could be had for 2- 4 years deals until the current players are ready for a raise or the prospects are ready.
  14. It's Wade, Rooker and Gordon, is there anybody else that I am missing?
  15. I understand, but imagine a team calling up 13 non pitching prospects in two years and most contributing, that would be amazing, and even more amazing would be watching it happen.
  16. Wow, I hope you are correct. But you listed a possible 13 players in AA or lower possibly helping the team in two years. That would possibly be the greatest minor league system every to do that.
  17. IMO if the Twins aren't considered a contender in 2019, then they won't be in 2020 and only maybe in in 2021, and if that is what the front office thinks, then they should try to trade EVERYBODY on the team. Including Berrios and Rosario because they will never return more than now.
  18. I don't disagree, if the next wave is 2020, the Twins are looking at 2021 at the earliest to be real good again, and I am not ready to wait that long. IMO they have to already be good when that wave comes up to keep the fan interest.
  19. 14th in innings pitched (AL) 16th in K's (AL) 25th in WHIP (AL)
  20. I hear what you are saying, In my hypothetical maybe the manager doesn't go to the pen in the 4th and lets the starter work out of the jam, but since it is 5th they go to the pen, because as we have seen in MN, sometimes a manager goes to the pen quite early with starters they don't fully trust. A manager that is good a this will do exactly what you point out,
  21. Expect they would be using there 3rd pitcher instead of there 2nd. And maybe because it is only the 3rd inning he lets him try to work out of the jam. (I realize this is all hypothetical and speculative, just trying to say a bad manager could really blow up a pen)
  22. This is no surprise, they are training the guys in the minors to go 5 or six innings with the 100 pitch count. And teams are smart enough to run that count up and get the starter out. If you start a guy for an inning or two with not pitch count restriction, you may actually get better baseball since it won't be guys taking the first pitch almost every time. But I was at that Sunday game against the Rays and the relief pitcher after relief pitcher was horrible! I will add I see bad managers destroying bullpens with this philosophy. Imagine May pitchers a scoreless first inning, and Mejia comes in and gets in a little trouble in the 4th in a close game. I could see Molitor going to the pen, completely ruining the strategy.
  23. I wrote "I was really hoping the floor was going to be his brother and as of now he is not living up to that (for me)" The for me is the important part, I am not trying to sway anybody else, it is my opinion. Dee didn't play baseball until high school because he was wanted to be a basketball player. So taking that and that Dee was a 4th rounder and not the 5th overall pick, I don't think he living up to that, if you do that is great, I am not going to argue that. The definition of discouraged is having lost confidence or enthusiasm; disheartened. That is where I am right now.
  24. To Clarify I was hoping it wouldn't take 5+ Plus year in the minors to get where is brother was at age 26. Plus Dee had only played about 350 games in the minors by Nick's current age with better stats, compared to Nick's 535 games. Like I said above, I am hopeful he gets there (really, really hopeful), but a career minor league player with a .333 OBP and .390 SLG. usually doesn't turn into everyday player and quasi All Star.
  25. To be honest I am discouraged. He is the guy I wanted to Twins to draft that year and I was really hoping the floor was going to be his brother and as of now he is not living up to that (for me). While I am discouraged I am really hopeful he figures something out and becomes Brian Dozier. (a top 3- 12 major league second basemen averaging 3.5+ WAR for 7 plus years) But I am also the guy that hates taking a high school kid in the first round and he takes 7-8 to be a average major league player.
